Laurel Munson Boyers, the first female wilderness manager at Yosemite National Park, will speak during the Feb. 5 membership meeting of Friends of Art Circle Public Library.
The meeting will be in the Cumberland Room at the library at 3 East St. Refreshments for the meeting open at 9:30 a.m., and the business meeting begins at 10.
“Step into the story of America’s wild places and the values they bring,” said Sandra Smith, a Friends of the Library board member. “Born in Yosemite, she has lived inside the Park most of her life.”
For decades, Boyer has helped safeguard landscapes and protect air & water quality, wildlife habitat, and wild plant species.
“Join us as she shares an insider’s look at what it truly takes to explore and care for wild places,” Smith said. “She will be drawing from a remarkable career spent defending some the most cherished natural spaces in the world.”
A question-and-answer session will follow the meeting. Copies of Boyer’s book, “Across Yosemite’s Wilderness,” will be available for purchase.
The public is welcome to attend and will have opportunities to join the Friends group.
“We hope to see you there,” Smith said.
