Our yoga teacher suggested this meditative exercise to experience infinite consciousness in your finite body. As directed by our teacher, I have been doing this meditative exercise every morning for more than 50 years. Because it has worked for me, I am going to share it with you.
To experience the infinite space as part of the finite bodily space, you can do this unique visualization by lying down on a carpeted floor or on a yoga mat.
Let your hands rest next to your body. Keep your eyes closed. Your body is relaxed. Imagine yourself moving in the direction of an infinite yellow or orange light. Come close to it and then take a plunge into it. Feel like a drop of rain being assimilated into the ocean of bliss. This ocean of bliss is infinite consciousness enjoying itself eternally (Satchitananda). You and this infinite consciousness are one and the same. It is your nature or self. Now being imbued with infinite consciousness enjoying itself eternally, you tell yourself that you are going to bring it down to your body and spread it within the seven chakras which are found in different parts of your body.
First, enter the crown chakra (on the top of your head) by flooding it with the Satchitananda. By placing it in this chakra, you realize that you are all and all is you.
Second, enter the mystical chakra (residing in your head), representing the third eye. Again, flood it with infinite consciousness by seeing the universe as devoid of dualism or multiplicity — seeing it as a chandelier with numerous lights — all lit up by the infinite consciousness.
Third, enter the speech chakra (residing in your speech organs) by flooding it with infinite consciousness by spreading the idea of unity in diversity, and articulating it forcefully and convincingly.
Fourth, enter the chakra placed in the heart by flooding it with infinite consciousness by revealing it through love and compassion for all beings — everybody is your friend and you are a friend of everybody.
Fifth, enter the solar plexus chakra placed in the belly button area and flood it with infinite consciousness by letting go of the ego, domination, aggression, superiority, masochism and sadism. Feel that you are a spiritual being having physical, emotional and mental experience. Everyone is your brother or sister or sibling.
Sixth, enter the chakra placed in the sexual organs which is guided by the pleasure principle and is motivated by the sexual urges or instincts. Flood it with infinite consciousness and feel the pleasure given through caring for other human beings.
Seventh, enter the chakra which is placed in the area of the root of the spinal cord. Flood this chakra with infinite consciousness by providing the basic security and survival of oneself and extending it to the others.
By doing this exercise on a daily basis, the practitioner would realize the connection between oneself, other human beings, other life forms, the earth, the sun, the stars, galaxies, the multiverse and the infinite consciousness that is the source of all there is. You also realize that you are it and it is you.
