MANCHESTER-BY-THE-SEA — A former Planning Board member will soon join the Housing Authority after a handful of voters penned her name on the ballot in Tuesday’s election.
There were no candidates on the ballot for a five-year term on the Housing Authority, but after write-in votes were tabulated by town officials, it was determined resident Christina Delisio had won the seat.
The other Housing Authority candidate on the ballot was Brian Alexander Frey, who won election for a two-year term.
Town Clerk Christine Dixon said Thursday that Delisio, a former Planning Board vice chair, picked up five votes to obtain the Housing Authority seat.
“I reached out to Christina Delisio to let her know, and she accepted the position,” Dixon said. “The next step is the swearing-in.”
Dixon said the brief swearing-in ceremony will take place Thursday, May 28, at 1 p.m.
On Thursday, Delisio said she was surprised to be elected.
“I’m honored,” she said. “I really didn’t do anything. But affordable housing has always been an interest for me. I would like to continue the efforts.”
Meanwhile, Delisio said she will continue her bid for the 5th Essex District seat in the Massachusetts House of Representatives.
Delisio was a Republican candidate in the March 31 special electionto fill the seat held by the late Rep. Ann-Margaret Ferrante, who died from pancreatic cancer Nov. 27 at age 53. She and Gilbert Frieden of Essex, unenrolled, lost to now Rep. Andrew “Dru” Tarr, D-Gloucester, Ferrante’s former aide.
“I’m still running for state representative,” said Delisio. “I researched this and found I can serve at the state level and also serve as a member of the Housing Authority.”
