NEWBURYPORT — Historian Lee Thomas will once again make history come alive when he returns to the Newburyport Senior/Community Center on Wednesday, Nov. 20, from 1 to 2 p.m. for another in the Village Talks series.
Village Talks are offered by the Greater Newburyport Village for the enrichment of the community; they occur every third Wednesday of the month.
Thomas has previously given highly entertaining Village Talks about the Civil Rights movement and the life of Teddy Roosevelt. Drawing on stories from his relatives who served during World War II, his focus is not on the big battles or the strategies of top commanders but instead he presents what life was like for the common soldier and how people in the United States experienced the war.
Using images, music, and anecdotes, he draws a picture of the 1940s and what was happening leading up to and during the conflict that tested what has become known as “The Greatest Generation” – a conflict that shaped the world as it is today.
Thomas is a retired history and special needs teacher with 35 years experience. His presentations are noted for their high degree of interaction.
A complimentary lunch is available at 11 a.m. sponsored by the Friends of the Council on Aging and the Greater Newburyport Village. Register at the Senior/Community Center at 978-462-0430.
