The Worcester girls basketball team opened its season Wednesday with a 43-35 victory over Hunter-Tannersville.
After taking a 23-9 lead into halftime, the Wolverines were able to withstand a second-half rally by H-T.
Hailey Shalor led the scoring in the victory with 15 points while Sam Tompkins recorded eight.
Julia Legg scored a game-high 17 points to lead Hunter-Tannersville.
Worcester will host Gilboa Friday.
Unadilla Valley 49, Charlotte Valley 36
The Unadilla Valley girls overcame a slow start to defeat Charlotte Valley 49-36 in Wednesday’s season opener.
After being held to just 12 points in the first half, UV scored 22 in the third quarter to pull away for the win.
Jaiden Schrag and Natalie Crandall each had double-doubles in the win. Schrag finished with 15 points, 10 steals and eight assists while Crandall notched 15 points and 11 rebounds.
Adrienne Hodge also finished in double figures with 11 points.
For Charlotte Valley, Kailey Whitbeck scored 13 points while Ella Gerster had 11.
UV will host Delhi next Wednesday while Charlotte Valley will visit Odessa-Montour Friday.
Walton/Downsville 51, Franklin 28
Walton/Downsville defeated Franklin 51-28 in the Walton Tipoff Tournament Wednesday.
Grace Walley led the way for W/D with 22 points, 24 rebounds and six assists while Alivia Conklin added 10 points and Eve Foster had eight points, eight rebounds and five steals.
Shannon Kingsbury led the Purple Devils with 15 points.
W/D will take on Deposit-Hancock in the second round Thursday while Franklin will take on Livingston Manor.
Unatego 40, Windsor 23
Unatego defeated Windsor 40-23 in its season-opener at home Wednesday behind an 18-4 third-quarter run.
Lizzie Craft led the Spartans with 12 points while Bailey McCoy added seven in the win.
Cass Bellmore led Windsor with five points.
Unatego will host Dryden Friday.
West Canada Valley 50, Cooperstown 34
Cooperstown fell to West Canada Valley 50-34 in its season-opener Wednesday at home.
Rory Nelen led the way with 16 points, seven rebounds and four steals while Mia Kaltenbach added nine points for the Hawkeyes.
Cooperstown will play in the Dick Alwine Tournament Friday in Delhi.
Edmeston/Morris 34, Cherry Valley-Springfield 22
Edmeston/Morris held off Cherry Valley-Springfield 34-22 in Wednesday’s Tri-Valley League contest.
Molly Rifanburg was the game’s leading scorer with 13 points for E/M while Hannah Wist had 10 points in the win.
Daphnee West led the Patriots with 12 points.
E/M will be at the Grasso Tournament in Laurens Friday while CV-S hosts Charlotte Valley next Tuesday.
