PEABODY — A woman was impaled by a tire iron that fell off the back of a truck on I-95 Friday and smashed through the windshield of the sedan traveling behind it.
According to Northeast Massachusetts Emergency Alerts, the incident was reported just before 12:30 p.m., after the object fell off the back of a truck on the northbound side of the highway, near Route 114, and went through the windshield of the car behind the truck.
The woman in the vehicle was reportedly impaled through the chest. A MedFlight was initially requested, but then canceled and the victim was transported by ambulance to Mass. General Hospital, according to Northeast Massachusetts Emergency Alerts.
According to police at the scene, the victim’s injuries were not life-threatening.
State police at the scene told a news photographer that the metal object was a tire iron. The damage to the windshield was visible on the passenger side of the car.
At least two ambulances and numerous police cruisers, along with a fire engine, all responded to the scene.
