CUMBERLAND — Three to six inches of snow is expected Tuesday in Mountain Maryland and surrounding areas when a storm system from the west combines with cold Arctic air from the Great Lakes region, according to AccuWeather.
“This is part of a busy weather pattern that is likely to continue for a while,” said AccuWeather meteorologist Gwendolyn Fieweger.
One to three inches of snow is expected for the Cumberland area, beginning just before noon and continuing with an additional one to three inches by early morning Wednesday.
However, another round of precipitation is expected to bring icy conditions late Wednesday afternoon and change to snow and then rain as the temperatures continue to rise. The high temperature for Thursday is expected in the mid-40s.
Still another storm system is expected to hit the Cumberland area Saturday afternoon.
“You could see initial periods of ice and snow before changing to rain with a high temperature of about 40 on Saturday,” said Fieweger who began her meteorology career with AccuWeather eight months ago.
“It’s important to keep an eye on the weather so you don’t become surprised by these storm systems,” she said.
Roger Bennett, acting director of the Department of Emergency Services, is keeping tabs on the anticipated storm systems..
“Looks like this could be our best weather day of the week,” said Bennett late Monday morning.
