WINDHAM, N.H. – The 10-year-old all-stars from Windham will be gunning for a Cal Ripken New England Regional Championship this weekend. And they will be doing it on their own home turf.
The Windham Baseball Softball League will host the eight-team regional this weekend at Griffin Park with Don Zimmer Field playing as the focal point of the event. It kicks off Friday afternoon and rolls through next week.
Windham went 8-1 in state play this summer.
Connor Kelliher, Micky Duff and Ian Ziakas have led the offense. Max Severini has led the staff with a 1.52 ERA, 43 strikeouts and only three walks in 23 innings pitched.
Joining both Windham and Keene in the field will be Central Vermont, Eastern Mass. champ Dennis Yarmouth, Western Mass. champ Nashoba, New Canaan, Conn., Noble Youth of Berwick, Maine and Rhode Island state champ, Tiverton.
Opening Ceremonies are scheduled for Friday at 3 p.m., followed by the skills competition. Skills include a Home Run Derby, Base Race, Bunting Competition, and Golden Arm with three players from each team competing.
The games kick off on Saturday morning and pool play continues through Sunday. Six teams will advance to bracket play on July 23, with the title match scheduled for July 25. The tournament winner will represent New England in the Cal Ripken World Series, which is hosted by Crown Point, Indiana.
