The two wind turbines in Blackburn Industrial Park are scheduled to come down Saturday, April 18, as part of the planned Applied Materials expansion.
The city of Gloucester said the turbines would be coming down Saturday, with the work to begin early in the morning. While work is going on, roads around the turbines will be closed off for a short period of time.
Applied Materials plans on building a new logistics center as well as expanding its manufacturing base in the Blackburn Industrial Park. The company manufactures the equipment needed to make computer chips and is one of the city’s largest employers.
In early January Mayor Paul Lundberg announced the 25-year agreement between the city and Equity Industrial Turbines LLC would be ending early.
Applied Materials assumed the agreement, and its rights and liabilities, that gave Gloucester access to the energy the turbines generated after purchasing 11 Dory Road last year.
The company agreed to pay the city $587,000, the estimated benefit the city would have received for the generated energy in fiscal years 2026, 2027 and 2028.
