The harsh winter temperatures will continue for a few more days.
The Vermilion County Emergency Management Agency and National Weather Service has extended its wind chill advisory for the area until noon Tuesday. The wind chill warning issued earlier was to expire Sunday afternoon.
Very cold wind chills are expected for as low as 25 below zero during the advisory.
The advisory includes portions of central, east central and southeast Illinois. Vermilion, Champaign, Edgar and surrounding counties are part of the affected area.
The extreme cold wind chills could cause frostbite on exposed skin in as little as 15 to 30 minutes.
Weather official urge residents to avoid outside activities if possible. When outside, make sure you wear appropriate clothing, a hat, and gloves. Use caution while traveling outside and be careful not to fall on slippery surfaces.
