The Whitfield County Board of Education meets Monday at 6:30 p.m. at the central office, 1306 S. Thornton Ave.
The board members are scheduled to recognize Caroline Anthony of Valley Point Middle School, who was named the 2023 Educator of the Year at the North Georgia Autism Conference in October.
The meeting will include financial reports from Whitfield County Schools Chief Financial Officer Kelly Coon, operations updates from Chief Operations Officer Mark Gibson and teaching and learning updates from Deputy Superintendent Karey Williams. Superintendent Mike Ewton will present a superintendent report.
The board members will make nominations for board chair and vice chair. The current chairman is Bill Worley and the current vice chairman is Jamie Johnson.
Alana Lopez, a Coahulla Creek High School junior who recently received a $40,000 college scholarship through the College Board’s BigFuture program, will speak.
The board will hold a called work session on the agenda at 5:30 p.m. at the central office before the meeting.
