WESTVILLE — Amercian Legion Riders Post 51 will be having a bucket drop fundraiser from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday, Oct. 6 and Saturday, Oct. 7 to cover all veteran graves in all four Westville cemeteries.
The group has raised enough for more than 170 of the 440 wreaths they’ll need to meet their goal.
The American Legion Riders will be standing and collecting money at the intersection of Main and State streets in Westville.
According to Tammy Walker, with Wreaths Across America Cover All Westville, their cutoff date will be the middle of November for the fundraiser so she can get everything turned into Tammy Williams, WAA location coordinator for the Danville National Cemetery, before Thanksgiving.
The Martin F. Vutrick Westville American Legion Riders Post 51 is not a motorcycle club but a group of motorcycle enthusiasts who enjoy and dedicate themselves to support American Legions and their programs and events. They pride themselves in recognizing and thanking all those who served in the military and those who are serving. The group also recognizes police officers, firefighters and emergency medical technicians who serve the communities. The group participates in American Legion events, funerals, military send offs, welcome homes, parades, etc. as invited.
At 11 a.m. Dec. 16, with wreath placement following the ceremony, Danville Wreaths Across America will be helping Danville National Cemetery to remember and honor veterans by laying remembrance wreaths on the graves of our country’s fallen heroes.
Donations and volunteers are being sought to honor and remember as many fallen heroes as possible by sponsoring remembrance wreaths, to volunteer on Wreaths Day, and invite family and friends to attend with you.
