HAMPSTEAD — With the start of school, fans of the card game “45s” begin the new season every Tuesday night at Hampstead Congregational Church, 61 Main St.
Players are promised an evening of fun testing their skills with lots of great friends. There is no fee to join. Snacks and water are available each week.
Games begin at 6 p.m. and last until 9 p.m. and will continue through May 27.
The game of 45s is most well-known in the Merrimack Valley of Massachusetts and has yet to gain attention in other parts of the country.

September 11th ceremony in Plaistow
PLAISTOW — Plaistow Fire Department will hold a brief ceremony on at 8:46 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 11, at the Fire Station, located at 27 Elm St.
The ceremony is in remembrance of the tragic loss our country experienced on Sept. 11, 2001.
This memorial event is open to the public.
Civil War is focus of roundtable
EPPING — The Civil War Roundtable of New Hampshire will begin its new season at 7:15 p.m. Friday, Sept. 20, at the Harvey-Mitchell Library, 151 Main St. Doors open about 6:45 p.m.
The guest speaker, John Manning, will present a program on General George Thomas.
Despite being a Virginian, Thomas remained loyal to the United States during the war; won the first Union victory; and was one of the better generals for the Union cause in other battles.
Manning is the current president of the Civil War Roundtable of the Merrimack.
The Civil War Roundtable of New Hampshire, a group of men and women, meets nine times a year and welcomes anyone with an interest in history.

Car, motorcycle show in Newton
NEWTON — Newton Recreation presents the 2024 Olde Home Day Car & Motorcycle Show from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 14, at 29 West Main St., behind Memorial School.
Ribbons will be awarded for Best in Show and Best in Motorcycle. Winners will be announced at 2:30 p.m.

Highnote Festival coming to Epping
EPPING — The McPhee Family of Epping will present the 24th annual Highnote Festival from 2 p.m. until dark Saturday, Sept. 14, rain or shine, on the grounds of the Governor Prescott House, 173 Prescott Road.
Highlights include the Jack Sharkey 5k Walk/Run, live music, hay rides, arts and crafts for kids of all ages, artisan exhibit booths, horseshoe pitching tournament, snowmobile water crossing, and more.
The cost is $15 for adults; kids and high school students are free. Tickets are available at the gate and all proceeds benefit the Adam McPhee Memorial Foundation.
Epping Police and Fire Department will be present. The grounds are handicap accessible. No pets, please.
