GIRLS HOCKEY
Beverly 5, Gloucester 2: Five different Panthers ripped the twine to make it a season sweep of the rival Fishermen. Asuka Keough and Emily Tibbetts each had a goal and an assist while Zoie Abell had a great outing and collected two helpers. Morgan Linskey, Meredith Johnston and Victoria Deleon also scored for Beverly (5-1) while Meghan Ryan added an assist.
Bishop Fenwick 4, Latin Academy 0: The Crusaders (3-2-1) busted out offensively on Sunday with goals by Lexi Salah, Noella Miserandino, Brianna Polley and Reagan Van Horn. Kailey Tinkham made plays all night with three assists with other helpers from Reese Robillard (2), Karissa Burgess, Ella Hayhurst and Lilly Cook. Freshman Stella Madarese made 13 saves for her first shutout on the varsity.
Medford 4, Masconomet 3 (OT): Gabi Rudnyai gave the Chieftains (0-4) a third period lead but Medford tied it with a late 5-on-3 goal and won it six seconds into overtime. Kayleigh LeColst and Samantha Conley also scored with assists notched by Madie Dupuis, Molly Arathuzik and Kaeley Forde.
Archbishop Williams 2, Bishop Fenwick 0: Freshman goaltender Stella Madarese was outstanding with 53 saves but the Crusaders (2-2-1) were snakebitten offensively.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Masconomet 49, Springfield International 37: Sami Lalikos had a monster double-double, scoring 21 points and grabbing 23 rebounds to power the Chieftains (4-1) to a weekend home win. Zoe Cote added 11 points and Masco allowed just five points in both the first and third quarters. Sabrina Cafarelli had a great defensive game with four steals and four deflections.
WRESTLING
St. John’s Prep finishes third: At the Spartan Wrestling Tournament in Sanford, Maine, the Eagles got first place finishes from Jimmy Lally (144 pounds), Will Lavaleee (150) and Sam Josey (190) to take third out of 23 teams with 247.5 points. Hayden Mirasolo also reached the finals at 157 pounds before placing second in his weight class. Earning third place were Ben Schumakre (126) and Bryant Mason (215); Graham Conway (132) and Charlie Poor (165) each finished fourth; Mason Trela (165), Octavio DeOliveira (175) and Joe Irzyk (285) were all fifth place finishers; and Jaxson Tammarao (205) placed sixth.
Salem 54, Worcester Tech 19: Winning their matches for the Witches were Damon Standley (106 lbs.), Caden Tran (120), Connor Buckley (138), Justice Bower (144), Dante Jacob (165), Fionn Coughlin (175), Fisnik Gilaj (190), Elijah Sosa (215) and Gregory Njiseng (285).
Danvers wins one: Hosting its annual quad-meet, the Falcons saw freshman Jack Moreshi pick up his first varsity win at 106 points as the Blue-and-White battled Lynnfield/North Reading (26-57), Arlington 21-57) and Foxboro (18-63). Sophomore Jaden Weiner also scored a victory for Danvers.
Peabody/Saugus second: At the Bruce Rich Invitational at Chelmsford, the Peabody/Saugus co-op was second overall with 175 points as eight grapplers placed in the top six of their divisions. Tucker Landry (126), Jackson Deleidi (132) and Justin Bremberg (157) all made the finals and finished second while Camdyn Lanning (113) and Michael Maraio (150) were fourth.
BOYS HOCKEY
St. John’s Prep 3, St. Mary’s Lynn 1: In a game that featured an uncharacteristic 14 penalties overall, the Eagles avoided being upset on home ice by scoring three times in the final period. Logan Daigle’s first career goal, a shorthanded strike, got it going for the Eagles (4-0-2) before senior defenseman Brennan Waters’ power play tally gave his team the lead for good. Anthony Petruccelli added an insurance marker and goalie Jesse Bernardinelli made 26 saves. Daigle and Andrew Macaulay both added assists.
Bishop Fenwick 4, Dedham 2: Chris Ferlito had a goal and one assist while Joey Michalski had a career high three assists to power the Crusaders (4-2) to victory. Goalie Jackson Phillips made 21 saves for his second victory in as many starts for Fenwick. Matt Martisaukas, Cam Garcia and John Tavernese added solo goals as the winners snapped a 2-2 tie with two tallies in the final five minutes.
Essex Tech 9, Rockport 2: Jaedyn Encarnacaco’s hat trick and one helper paced the visiting Hawks (5-2-1) to an easy win. Defensemen Liam Waterman (goal, 2 assists) and Cam Casey (4 assists) and forward Chase Ruberti (goal, 3 assists) also had big nights for Essex Tech, which got additional goals from Braydon Connors, Ryan Wilson, Sonny Colluciello (the sophomore’s first varsity goal) and Andrew Glidden. Logan Prifti made 23 saves to earn the win in net, which got additional assists from Jake Swencki (2), Maddix Champlain, Connors and Wilson.
Gloucester 4, Marblehead 3: The Headers played with strong team structure throughout and held leads of 1-0 and 3-2, but couldn’t hold on for their first victory of the season. EJ Wyman had a pair of goals for MHS, with Holden Ferreira also scoring. Ryan Frary assisted on both of Wyman’s tallies, and goalie Bowden Laramie stopped 20 shots.
Winthrop 5, Peabody/Saugus/Swampscott 1: Despite 30 saves in net from senior Dom Pappalardo, penalties and a tough second period sunk the Tanners (now 3-2) at Kasabuski Rink in Saugus. Brandon Barone scored for P/S/S, with Tristan Joyce picking up the assist.
WOMEN’S COLLEGE BASKETBALL
Lasell 83, Salem State 74 (OT): Sunali Carter scored 17 and made four treys to lead four Vikings in double figures but Salem State (4-7) was outscored 10-1 in the extra session after rallying in the fourth to tie it up. Ernidia Goncalves had a doule-double with 14 points and 19 rebounds and Kylie Schrock chipped in a baker’s dozen.
Endicott 63, Curry 53: Tenley Wallin and Emma Shinney both scored 12 points and Endicott (7-5) returned from break with its third straight win.
Western New England 71, Gordon 52: A 19-point effort from Woynitu Ciccarello wasn’t enough for Gordon (3-9) to keep pace with the Golden Bears.
MEN’S COLLEGE BASKETBALL
Endicott 83, Curry 66: Marcus Montagino scored 33 points with 11 rebounds and Caden Sullivan had one of his best games of the season with 23 points to power the Gulls (11-5) to their 25th straight win in the series with Curry.
Western New England 95, Gordon 67: Alex Daniel’s 18 points led the way for Gordon (3-9) but a slow offensive first half led to a CNE defeat.
MEN’S COLLEGE HOCKEY
Endicott 5, Salem State 2: Carson Nickulas had a goal and two assists and the No. 11 ranked Gulls (8-1-1) scored the game’s first five goals in a home win. Primo Self added a goal and an assist for Endicott, which got 22 saves from Peter Sterling. Will Nepveu stopped 50 shots for Salem State (2-9-2), which saw Nick Sweey and Landyn Greatorex each light the lamp in the third period.
WOMEN’S COLLEGE HOCKEY
Endicott 1, Middlebury 1: Casey Moritz made 33 saves to enable the No. 6 Gulls (8-2-1) to draw the No. 4 Panthers in a battle of top ten ranked clubs. Both goals were scored in the third period with Abbey Agrondia knotting it up 2:36 after Middlebury took the lead.
Keene State 3, Salem State 2 (OT): Isabelle Besser scored the tying goal with 11 seconds left in regulation but Salem State (3-7-1) gave up the winner in overtime. Olivia Tednes also scored for SSU, Aislinn Bennett had two assists and Amy Thul came up with 16 saves.
