A brief recap of weekend prep football highlights:
FOOTBALL
• TC West 21, TC Central 20, OT: An extra point by Nick Klein gave the Titans the Nowak-Olson Trophy for the third straight year, although Central and West face off again seven days later with only one team advancing in the playoffs.
• Glen Lake 23, Mancelona 22: The Lakers won the NMFC-Legacy title as Hunter Cox hit a 23-yard field goal in the final minute. Coincidentally, the Lakers and Ironmen meet again in the opening round of playoffs, the second consecutive year that’s happened.
• Onekama 27, Bellaire 8: Bellaire held the Portagers to a season-low 27 points, but Onekama still completed the first 9-0 season in program history and only the second undefeated regular season (the 1976 team was 8-0).
• Gaylord 35, Sault Ste. Marie: Gaylord closed out a Big North Conference championship with a shutout of the league’s other Blue Devils. It’s Gaylord’s second shutout of the season.
• Petoskey 54, Clare 7: Petoskey closed the season 5-4, and just missed the Division 3 playoff field.
• Suttons Bay 35, Pellston 0: The Norseman close out Tony West’s first season as head coach with a shutout victory.
• Kingsley 44, Charlevoix 18: Nolan Hodges had 102 rush yards with a TD, made 7 tackles and blocked an extra point in the Stags’ impressive win to finish the season 7-2 and give Charlevoix its first loss.
• Boyne City 27, Kalkaska 20: Boyne City won to clinch a playoff spot, earning the third seed in a loaded district and getting a rematch with TC St. Francis, which beat the Ramblers 20-13 three weeks ago. The Glads had an open date in Week Nine.
• East Jordan 20, Elk Rapids 6: Elk Rapids had won three of its previous four games, but East Jordan won anyway to set up a rematch of Week Eight in the playoffs, hosting Frankfort.
• Frankfort 38, Oscoda 22: Owen Mills ran for 182 yards and a 3 TDs as the Panthers finish the regular season 6-3.
• Grayling 21, Shepherd 20: Alex Moore kicked an extra point with 5.3 seconds left to give Grayling (3-6) the win.
• Manton 50, Johannesburg-Lewiston 8: Manton clinched its first playoff berth since 2014 with a 50-8 win. McCoy Hicks had TD runs of 70, 68 and 41 yards.
• Inland Lakes 47, Gaylord St. Mary 20:
• Bear Lake 52, Whittemore-Prescott 12: Bear Lake’s win ended a 7-2 campaign that saw the Lakers just miss out of the playoffs. Bear Lake set new program records for wins (7), points scored (438) and points allowed (150).
• Other area scores: Mt. Pleasant Sacred Heart 31, Lake City 28; Monroe Jeffers 52, Benzie Central 12; Fremont 47, Cadillac 28; Mason County Central 37, Manistee 24.
