Swampscott 9, Cohasset 8: Down by two goals at halftime and one after three quarters, the Big Blue rallied to score the tying and go-ahead goals in the fourth quarter and didn’t allow one over the last 12 minutes to score a Division 4 quarterfinal playoff upset on the road over the No. 5 seed.
Junior Liam Keaney led the offense for Swampscott (now 20-1) with four goals and one assist; he leads his team in scoring with 89 points. Freshman John Von Barta scored three times, and senior captain Carson Palmer had the other two. Assists went to Sad Brodsky and Jason Rothwell, with goaltender Timmy Sheehan, a junior, making 11 saves.
The Big Blue, seeded 13th in the Division 4 draw, will now face top seeded Nantucket in the state semifinals Tuesday.
GIRLS TENNIS
Hopedale 4, Ipswich 1: The fifth seeded Tigers saw their postseason journey come to an end on the road in a Division 4 state quarterfinal loss. Norah Hickey and Lila Borgman had the win for Ipswich at first doubles, rallying for a three-set victory after dropping the first set.
Emily Hannibal and Frannie Hertz won their first set, 6-2, before falling in three sets. Abbie Allen went to a third set tiebreaker for Ipswich at second singles before falling, 10-6, and both Tess O’Flynn at third singles (6-3, 6-4) and Claire Buletza at first singles (6-4, 6-1) both battled.
