BOYS TRACK
Jackson is Most Outstanding Athlete: Peabody’s Alex Jackson continued his shot put dominance by winning the Large School MSTCA Invitational with a 57-foot-2-inch throw. The junior was named Most Outstanding Field Athlete of the meet.
Also for Peabody, Evan Bedard came in third in the long jump (21-8 3/4), the 4×200 relay of Eli Batista, Kobe Avery, Abou Kaba and Dorlyn Morel was fifth (1:33.63), Brian Stevens placed ninth in the 600 (1:26.43), Peyton Smith was 11th in the hurdles (8.08) and Batista was 12th in the dash (6.73).
Prep’s Padley tops field: Daniel Padley blazed to a 2:41 in the 1000 to win the MSTCA Large School invitational crown. Also placing highly for St. John’s Prep was the 4×200 relay of Ahmir Hykel, Brendan Burke, Charlie Angell and Kevin Vaughan in fourth in 1:33. Aithan Bezanson was also tenth in the high hurdles.
Bronze for Sherriff: Beverly High’s Leo Sherriff came in third place in the hurdles at the MSTCA Large School invite with a time of 7.70. Evan Wong came in 11th in the 600 (1:26.85), Ryan Whiting was 12th in the 1000 (2:41) and the 4×200 relay of Ray Kwiatek, Danny Conant, Sherriff and Charlie Salerno came in 12th.
Falcons place: At Sunday’s Small school meet, Danvers’ Sean Moore clocked a 9:41 to earn the bronze medal in the 2-mile in third place. J.J. Rooney also came in sixth in the mile (4:31).
Magicians blaze: Marblehead took home a number of medals at the MSTCA Small School invitational led by Isaac Gross’ silver in the 2-mile (9:27) plus Alex Hersey’s fifth in the hurdles and Thomas Carlson’s third in the dash. Nathaniel Assa was 10th in the mile (4:37) and Hersey also placed eighth in the long jump.
GIRLS TRACK
Tanners place: Peabody’s 4×400 relay of Mimi Batista, Stella D’Ambrosio, Ava Champigny and Madi Barrett was third at the MSTCA Large School Invitational with a time of 4:14. Makaya Kokozenis also made the podium for the Tanners, clearing 4-10 for eighth in the high jump.
Beverly shines: Highlighting things for the Panthers at the MSTCA Large School meet were Allison Prasse (12th in the mile, 5:28) and Tara McNeil (12:29 in the 2-mile for 5th in her heat and 19th overall).
Magicians earn medals: Marblehead had some strong showings at Sunday’s MSTCA Small School invite led by Paige Treadwell placing seventh in the hurdles plus 11th in the high jump and LeDaisha Williams coming in eighth in the 300. Kate Twomey was ninth in the 1000. The 4×200 relay was also 14th overall.
GIRLS HOCKEY
Masconomet 3, Marblehead 0: Junior captain Maddie Kenny had a goal and an assist and senior captain MacKenzie Cronin made 16 saves for her second shutout of the year as the Chieftains evened their record at 6-6. Hannah Coleman and Charlotte Leiss also scored while Bella Campbell and Jessey Grelish earned helpers.
For the Lady Headers (2-9-1), freshman Scarlet Lee made 25 saves while 7th grader Madi Reno played well up front and sophomore Ava Baughn had a good game on defense.
Bishop Fenwick 4, East Bridgewater 1: Penny Levine Stein had two goals and an assist in her return from injury to power the Crusaders. Defenseman Maddie Faragi also had a goal and an assist while Noella Miserandino ripped the twine and Reagan Van Horn had one assist.
Brewster 4, Pingree 1: In a physical clash, Pingree got its goal on the power play from Neely Payne, assisted by Aby Amigo. Piper Davekos stopped 30 of 33 shots on goal before the winners added an empty netter.
BOYS HOCKEY
Danvers 6, Swampscott 0: In their annual JJ Rosato Memorial Game, played in memory of the young Danvers youth hockey player who passed away suddenly at age eight in December 2015, the Falcons got two goals from captain Nick Robinson to improve to 7-4-2. Mikey DeLisio and Cooper Dunham each added a goal and an assist, Thomas Fish and Liam Brooks also lit the lamp, plus Owen Swanton and Ty Langlais added assists. Brayden Oteri’s 10-save shutout sealed the deal for DHS.
Dom Pappalardo was busy in net for the Big Blue (6-6-2), winding up with 39 saves.
Peabody-Saugus 5, Chicopee 3: Sophomore Brandon Berone had a natural hat trick in the first period and finished with four points as the Tanners (3-8-1) won for the second time in their last three contests. Senior Dom Chianca also had four points, including a pair of goals, with Andrew Pinto and Artie O’Leary and picking up one assist each. Goalie Evan Tybinkowski finished with 26 saves.
Marblehead 4, Medford 2: Avin Rodovsky scored twice and added two helpers as the Headers (6-8) won their fourth straight Sunday morning. James Caeran and Kyle Hart each had a goal and two assists, Hogan Sedky dished out a pair of assists as well, and Leo Burdge stopped 21 shots for the win in net.
Masconomet 4, Bishop Fenwick 1: Dylan Brothers stopped 18 of 19 shots and watched as four of his teammates scored at the other end to send the Chieftains (10-4) home with a victory. John Miga (first varsity goal), Ben Merrill, Johnny Mireault and Evan Collins (first varsity goal) all connected for Masconomet, with assists going to Miles Mireault, Brady Forde (2), Alan Weitzman, and Brendan Sheehan.
Parker Pierre stopped 47 shots in net for Bishop Fenwick, which got its goal from Colin Churches. Assists went to Kieran Corcoran and Chris Ferlito.
Winthrop 5, Beverly 1: Three power play goals sunk the Panthers against the unbeaten Vikings. Sophomore center Logan Bowen had the goal, linemates Drew Murphy and Ethan Haight assisted, and goalie PJ Redman made 27 saves for Beverly (now 7-6-1).
Gloucester 8, Peabody-Saugus 0: Evan Tybinkowski stopped 24 shots in net for the Tanners, who were caught up in a typhoon of Gloucester goals over the first two periods.
Pingree 4, Brewster 1: Nick Moulison lit the lamp twice and goaltender Nick Hubbard (29 saves) shined between the pipes as the Highlanders (9-7-3) aced a road test for the second time in as many days. Joe Gaffney and Max Trudel also scored for the winners, with Max Kirianov, Kellan Danaher, Mikey Covelluzzi, Anthony Bonacorso, Quinn Moses and Gaffney each picking up an assist.
SWIMMING
Bishop Fenwick 87, St. Mary’s Lynn 67: Sophomore Caroline Blatchford, freshman Amelia Gallant, and junior captain Hannah Ryan all won two individual events and were part of two winning relays to propel the Crusaders. Blatchford won the 200 IM (2:24.25) and 100 butterfly (1:19); Gallant did the same by taking top honors in the 200 freestyle (2:11.91) and 500 free (5:38; and Ryan was victorious in the 100 free (1:00.21) and 100 breaststroke (1:15.04); all three joined senior captain Madi Moseley on the triumphant 200 medley relay (2:07.16) and 400 free relay (4:26.35). Senior Matt McDonald (50 free, 28.75) was also an individual winner for Fenwick.
BOYS BASKETBALL
Masconomet 54, Greater Lawrence 49: Joe Vella scored 18 points while his Chieftains, who trailed by three at halftime, allowed just 21 second half points to improve to 7-5 on the season. Devin O’Brien added 16 points and Jimmy Farrell for the victorious Chieftains.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Milton Academy 58, Pingree 51: Despite 12 points from Lyla Campbell, the Highlanders were toppled by the Mustangs. Hannah Shields and Bella Vaz both added nine points while Shauna O’Brien had eight and Antonella Najim six.
Lincoln-Sudbury 57, Peabody 42: The Tanners (7-4) fell to a strong program on the road, suffering their fourth setback in the last five games. Logan Lomasney had 17 points, 11 rebounds and an incredible seven blocked shots while Maia Davis scored 12 and Abby Bettencourt had six points, seven assists and six steals.
WRESTLING
Fenwick takes eighth place: At the Vocational state tournament, the Northeast/Bishop Fenwick wrestlers placed eighth out of 15 teams behind Luke Connolly, who was voted Outstanding Wrestler for the upper weights. Anthony Nichols placed second at 215 lbs., with Jackson Cody (120 lbs.) third. Charlie Berry (106), Ray Kochanski (144) and Raymond Anderson (285) also medaled for Fenwick.
GYMNASTICS
Winthrop 128.7, Peabody 89.15: Molly Hagerty, an eighth grader, had a strong showing for Peabody by scoring a 7.0 on beam, 7.5 on vault, 7.0 on bars and 7.7 on floor exercises. Freshman Jueisi Brito competed for the first time ever on vault and beam, while fellow ninth grader Maddy Semper also fared well in both disciplines.
WOMEN’S COLLEGE HOCKEY
Endicott 3, Curry 0: Payton Hansen’s second period goal was the difference and Cecelia Dahl turned in a 16-save shutout performance as the nation’s 12th ranked team, the Gulls, improved to 14-4-2 overall. Empty netters in the third period were scored by Teaghan Hall and Maddie DiNardo.
Salem State 1, Johnson & Wales 1 (OT): A goal two minutes into the second period by Celeste Scoppettuolo gave the Vikings (5-14-2) a one-goal lead before the hosts tied it before the second intermission — and that’s where it remained. Isabella Perrotti and Lexi Warner assisted on Scoppettuolo’s goal, and goalie Kaia Hollingsworth stopped 33 shots.
MEN’S COLLEGE HOCKEY
Westfield State 6, Salem State 5: Trailing by four goals midway through the contest, the Vikings mounted a furious comeback by tallying three times within 71 seconds before the period ended and twice more in the third, but were unable to get the tying marker. Luke Pepin, Keagan O’Donoghue, Carson Whitman, Carson James and Chase Conlon had the goals for SSU (5-14) while Landyn Greatorex dished out three assists.
Endicott 4, Suffolk 1: Michael Casey, Andrew Kurapov and Ryan Willett each scored first period goals to pave the way for Endicott (12-4-4) to roll in East Boston. John Goldowski also scored, Willett and Casey each added two assists, and goalie Ryan Wilson made 30 saves for the victors.
WOMEN’S COLLEGE BASKETBALL
Suffolk 82, Endicott 76 (OT): Despite having three players with more than 20 points, the Gulls (10-8) couldn’t surpass the visitors. Sarah Dempsey led the way with 22 points, 11 rebounds, five assists and two steals for Endicott, with Libby Fleming (11 rebounds, 5 assists, 1 steal) and Cora Nadeau each contributing 21 points.
University of New England 74, Gordon 49: Ami Rivera had a team-best 12 points in the Scots’ (3-16) setback.
Bridgewater State 100, Salem State 70: The Vikings fell to 8-11 on the season and 2-5 in MASCAC competition despite 20 points, three steals and 13 rebounds (9 offensive) by Ernidia Goncalves. Kylie Gates also scored 20 points for SSU with six rebounds, a game-high eight assists and three steals.
MEN’S COLLEGE BASKETBALL
Gordon 83, University of New England 73: Bryce Smith netted himself 24 points while teammate Treyton Trebbs added 22 as the Scots raced out a 15-point halftime lead and never looked back. Justin Yu (14 points) and Isaac Jarvis (13 points, 10 rebounds) also starred for Gordon (5-14).
Bridgewater State 90, Salem State 69: LJ Hicks had a strong stat line of 18 points, seven rebounds and three assists, but it wasn’t enough to lift the Vikings (now 9-9) on the road. Michael Makiej added 13 points while SSU teammate Will Martinez added 10 points, seven rebounds and five assists.
Suffolk 70, Endicott 69: In a nip-and-tuck battle, Jeff Hill had a game high 27 points for the hosts in the setback. Jalen Echevarria was also in double digits (11 points) for Endicott, now 12-7 on the season.
MEN’S COLLEGE VOLLEYBALL
Endicott splits: After falling in straight sets to the nation’s No. 1 ranked team in Wentworth earlier in the day, the Gulls rebounded with a 27-25, 25-20, 25-15 win over Baruch. Jake Laborde had 15 kills and Dean Warner had 12 putaways and nine digs. Aidan Iacovelli added nine kills and nine digs while Gavin Emenaker finished with 36 assists.
