BOYS LACROSSE
St. John’s Prep 13, Acton-Boxborough 1: Ryan McCarthy exploded for six goals and two assists as the five-time defending Division 1 state champions opened their season with a big road win.
Captain Kevin Correa and fellow defenders Paul Iannuccillo and Sebastian Froeb helped shut down the hosts as their own team raced out to a 9-0 halftime lead. Bo Minogue added three goals for the winners, Beckett Lee produced a goal and two assists, while Thias Tolo, Cam Mitchell and Mac Crawford had one apiece. Assists went to Paul Kosinski (2), Will Crawford and Brendan Ward, with goalies Max Putney (8 saves) and Mattheus DePlessis (4 saves) each playing well. Will Crawford won 15 of the 17 faceoffs he took as well.
Lowell 10, Salem 2: Tyler Lister and AJ Alessi had the goals for the Witches in a season opening road setback, with goalie Vincent Milano finished with 16 saves.
Middlesex 12, Pingree 8: It was a disappointing season opener for the Highlanders, who despite getting 13 saves from Marcello Amadeo and 15-of-20 faceoff wins from Finley McClintock were unable to translate that into victory. Jake Hiltz (3 goals), Henry Card (2 goals, assist) and Connor O’Neil (3 assists) led the offense, with Matt Tersolo, Christian Renaud and Wyatt Langway also scoring while Nick Donovan picked up an assist.
Medford 7, Bishop Fenwick 5: CJ Masone had two goals and two assists while Dylan Patturelli also notched a pair of goals in a season opening setback for the Fenwickians. Mike Paolini also scored, Logan Connolly picked up an assist, Dan Ryan scooped five ground balls, and goalie Liam Kelsch made a dozen saves.
WOMEN’S COLLEGE LACROSSE
Endicott 16, Roger Williams 7: Leah Black recorded four goals to go along with two assists to keep the Gulls (now 7-1) rolling. Emerson Clark and Abbie Belleville each buried three goals on four shots for Endicott, which also got two goals apiece from Mia Samarjian and Ava Amara.
Salem State 15, Mass. Maritime 5: Danvers native Jordan Turcotte poured in six more goals and the Vikings remained undefeated at 7-0. Fellow former Falcons Kaylee Rich had a hat trick and Laura Young added a hat trick plus two assists while Aislinn Bennett contributed two goals and two assists and goalie Nora Bradley made eight saves.
Hartford 23, Gordon 1: Hannah Rose potted one for Gordon (0-8), which was shut out in the second half. Kayla Davidson was busy in the net, facing 36 shots and stopping 13.
MEN’S COLLEGE LACROSSE
Salem State 16, Vermont State Castleton 8: The Vikings (4-3) used a 6-0 run between the second and the third quarters to double up their foes. James Tatro led the attack with six goals while Peabody native Cam Collins chipped in two scores with an assist, Connor Vittands of Gloucester scored twice and Beverly’s Jaxon Thomas netted one.
Endicott 19, Roger Williams 3: Nick Graap had six goals and an assist and the Gulls (6-3) led 11-2 at half and closed with a 6-0 fourth quarter to dominate the Hawks. Adam Preist, Tyler Williams and Manny Marshall all scored twice in a balanced Endicott attack and Gio Panicola made six saves.
Hartford 19, Gordon 6: The visitors scored the game’s first 14 goals and dropped the Scots to their fifth loss in six contests. Jackson Wright had three goals for the locals, with Kennedy Opie adding two and Ryan Arthur one.
COLLEGE BASEBALL
Gulls sweep: Endicott (10-5) took down Hartford 14-4 and 5-0 to sweep a Sunday CNE doubleheader. Brady Stuary and Jake Harmony combined for 12 strikeouts in the shutout win with Adam Regan stroking a 2-run homer to break a 0-0 tie in the eighth. In the 14-4 triumph, Brenden Walsh homered, AJ Hamm had three RBI and shortstop TJ Liponis drove in a pair.
Split for Vikes: Collin Tenney played stopped, striking out nine in a complete game shutout as the Vikings (5-6) beat Mass. Maritime 9-0 to avenge a 6-5 loss in the opener of a Sunday twinbill. Yabdriel Gonzalez homered and had five RBI in the victory while Salem native Jack Doyle hit safely in both games, drove in a run and scored.
Gordon splits: A pair of extra inning games with Suffolk Saturday resulted in Gordon taking the first one, 5-3, in 11 innings before the hosts back to capture the nightcap, 4-3, in 10 innings. Carter Shin (4 hits, run) smacked a two-run double in the top of the 11th in Game 1 for the Scots, making a winner out of reliever Brett Moore. CJ Massella added three hits while Gabe Fales and Cam Wilbur both had two with an RBI. Shin, Massella and Cael Smith had the RBI for Gordon in Game 2.
MEN’S COLLEGE VOLLEYBALL
Endicott 3, Nichols 0: Aidan Iacovelli swung 37 times and connected for 18 kills to pace the Gulls (18-3) in a clean sweep. Jake Laborde was also in double figures with ten spikes and Matty Tiernan ran the show with 42 assists.
COLLEGE SOFTBALL
Split for Salem State: The Vikings bounded back from a 4-1 loss to Maine Farmington to win the nightcap 12-0 and get to 9-6 overall. Sula Roberge tossed a shutout in the win while helping her own cause with two RBI. Also collected a pair of RBI each were Samantha Gaona-Sullivan, Tara Perryman, Alanis Toledano and Giana Johanson.
MEN’S COLLEGE TENNIS
Endicott 6, Suffolk 1: The Gulls (6-6) swept doubles play and also got singles wins from Spencer Smith (6-1, 6-0), Greg Noroian (6-0, 6-0), Eric Scalici (6-1, 6-0), Aaron Terpko (6-1, 6-2) and Drew Benporath (3-6, 6-1, 11-9).
Gordon 6, Western New England 1: Jeffrey Bodner (6-2, 6-0), Santiago Diaz (6-1, 6-0), Gabriel Guzman (3-6, 6-2, 6-2), James Wellborn (6-4, 6-1) and Jack Makiej (6-3, 6-4) all won in singles to help Gordon improve to 6-7.
Salem State 4, Western Connecticut 3: Winning two of three doubles matches, the Vikings went on to get singles triumphs from Quentin Wilkins (7-6 (10-5), Mark Wood (6-2, 6-4), Ian Ronan (2-6, 7-6 (7-5), 6-3) to take home the win.
