BOYS TRACK
Beverly takes two wins: Leo Sheriff was spectacular for the Orange-and-Black, claiming four wins — including a school record in the 50-yard hurdles in 6.4 seconds — and another win in the high jump as his team bested both Swampscott (57.5-28.5) and Salem (75-10). Other winners included Daniel Conant (50), Evan Wong (300), Ryan Whiting (600), and Riley McGoldrick (2-mile) as well as Calvin Barrett, Harrison Stanton, Whiting and Wong.
GIRLS TRACK
Beverly sweeps two: Lily Judge won the high hurdles in a time of 7.95 seconds and tied with Riley Tendency in the high jump as the Panthers blasted defeated both Salem (79-5) and Swampscott (61-25). Allison Prasse took top honors in the mile (5:45), as did Grace Williams in the 600, Cali Panjwani in the 2-mile, and Addie Abel in the 300 for Beverly (now 5-0).
GIRLS HOCKEY
Peabody 8, Newburyport 2: Shirley Whitmore and Mia Lava each had two goals plus an assist and senior captain Catie Kampersal scored twice to power the Tanners (5-1) at home. Abby McInerney (goal, assist), Ava Buckley (two assists) and captain Yasmine Giacolone (two assists) enjoyed multi-point efforts, sophomore Eleni Spack lit the lamp and single helpers were earned by Leah Buckley and Maura Flaws.
Shawsheen 3, Marblehead 1: Maddie Graber netted a third period goal assisted by Teyah Fleming, but the Lady Headers dropped their fifth straight to go to 1-5. Freshman goaltender Scarlett Lee came up with 29 stops in net.
BOYS HOCKEY
Marblehead 3, Medford 1: Freshman Will Sullivan scored his first varsity goal and netminder Leo Burdge made 18 saves as the Headers (2-6) not only won their second straight, but gained a measure of revenge over a Mustangs squad that had defeated them last week. Crew Monaco and the team’s leading scorer, Kyle Hart, also lit the lamp in the win.
Essex Tech 5, Triton 3: Chris Maher scored a pair of goals, including the game-winner, and Teddy Tsoutsouris finished with a goal and an assist as Essex Tech took down their Cape Ann League counterparts. Garrett White came up with 20 saves for the Hawks, who evened their record at 3-3-1. Dom Tiberii and Jaydan Vargas also lit the lamp for the winners, with Mason Sutcliffe (2), Brady Leonard, Anthony Bisenti, Andrew McKenna, Logan Casey, Ben Rehal, Cameron Casey and Drew Carney collecting assists.
Bishop Feehan 4, Bishop Fenwick 1: Joey Marshall netted his first varsity goal and Parker Pierre stopped 42 shots, but Fenwick couldn’t overcome an early road deficit.
SWIMMING
Danvers 98, Swampscott 82: A pair of freshmen, Agnes Osminkin and Maddie Martin, “stole the show” for the Falcons according to head coach Meghan Beaulieu as the Falcons scored a clutch victory over the powerful Big Blue. Osminkin was victorious in both the 100 and 200 freestyle, while Martin took top honors in the 100 butterfly. Zachary Cotter was also a double winner for Danvers, claiming both the 50 free and 200 IM. Arianna McNulty, Darius Chung, Martin and Cotter added another win in the medley relay, as did Bella Moccia, Chung, Osminkin and Cotter in the 200 free relay.
St. John’s Prep 103, Catholic Memorial 67: The Eagles moved to 3-0 in the Catholic Conference and 3-1 overall with the win. Reese Martinez swam to a first place finish in the 200 IM, as did Will Kennedy in the 200 breaststroke. A pair of relay teams also finished first for SJP: the 200 free relay team of Sean McGhee, Wes Ross, Jake POwers and Flynn McDonnell; plus the 400 free relay team of McGhee, Powers, Charlie Sununu and Kennedy.
WRESTLING
St. John’s Prep 78, Malden Catholic 3: The Eagles (14-0 overall) won their Catholic Conference opener in a breeze, getting 13 different winners. They were Graham Conway (106 lbs.), Braedon Goes (120), Boden Dormer (126), Victor Meijas (132), Jimmy Lally (138), Will LaVallee (144), Ryan DeSouza (150), Jayden D’abrosio (157), Matt Pineiro (165), Vincent Bilotti (175), Brett Sadford (190), Marc Pineiro (215) and Alex Bajoras (285).
Excel Academy 54, Danvers 19: The Falcons got victories from Joey Moreschi at 113 pounds (major decision, 11-3), Cian McCarty at 120 (11-7 decision), Mark Haskins at 138 (7-3 decision), Brady Tersolo at 144 (10-9 decision) and, by fall Adam Gozofski at 285.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Hamilton-Wenham 54, Ipswich 37: Sadie Gamber and Sasha Makogonov each scored 15 points as the Generals raced out to a 15-4 first quarter lead and never looked back, leading to its third straight victory. Gaby Campbell also had a terrific game with 14 points, while Leah Coffey and Grace Harres contributed to the win for H-W (now 5-2).
Ella Stein had 15 points for Ipswich, with Tiger teammate Lucy Donahue adding 14.
Manchester Essex 36, Danvers 30: Early foul trouble saw the Falcons fall behind by 10 at halftime before rallying and climbing back to within two late, but they couldn’t get over the final hurdle. Sophomore Angie Djoko had a double-double for Danvers with 10 points and 10 assists, while teammate and captain Reese Holland added six points and grabbed five caroms.
Pentucket 44, Essex Tech 18: The Hawks fell to 3-4 on the season despite strong outings from sophomore Bella Gonzalez (8 points), junior Thais Does Santos (6 points) and sophomore Avery Barteaux (4 points).
GYMNASTICS
Marblehead takes pair: Senior Maeve McIlroy won the all-around with a 37.35 and the Magicians toppled Beverly, 129.8-129.6, and also beat Essex Tech 129.8-116.15. McIlroy was first on vault (9.5), bars (9.5), beam (8.75) and floor with an outstanding 9.6. Jamie Andrews scored 7.7 on bars as well as an 8.8 on beam.
Beverly splits: Freshman Carli Moran was second all-around and Beverly outpaced Essex Tech 128.6-116.15 while taking a narrow loss to Marblehead by just 1.2 points. Moran scored 9.2 on vault, 9.0 on bars, 7.95 on beam and 9.2 on floor. Also for the Panthers, junior Julia Guanci scored 8.15 on floor and senior Lily Robinson notched 7.95 on beam.
For Essex Tech, junior Brooke Medico earned an 8.35 for third on vault. Senior Ava Maher and freshman Marliana Vikara also performed well.
BOYS BASKETBALL
Marblehead 68, Saugus 44: A strong second half enabled the unbeaten Magicians (3-0) to pull away from their Northeastern Conference rivals, holding them to just five points in the third quarter. A pair of seniors, forward Ryan Commoss and guard Nick Lemmond, each dropped in 20 points for the winners, with Scott Campbell adding a dozen of his own.
Hamilton-Wenham 68, Ipswich 54: The Generals improved to 2-3 behind a near triple-double from AB Labell (14 points, 10 rebounds, 8 assists). Chris Collins added 14 points and 12 boards while Caden Schrock went for 20 points, 13 rebounds and five assists.
Rex Sutter (18 points, including four 3-pointers) and Max Chesley (13 points, with a pair of trifectas) helped power Ipswich offensively.
Pentucket 59, Essex Tech 24: Matthew Gribbins paced the Hawks with 11 points.
Masconomet 69, Gloucester 46: Sophomore Jamason Vella had 16 points and junior Devin O’Brien totaled up 12 as the Chieftains moved to 2-3 overall with a conference home win. Junior Hunter Rossi added 11 and sophomore guard Cal Weidman buried three triples and scored 10.
WOMEN’S COLLEGE BASKETBALL
Bridgewater State 77, Salem State 69: The host Vikings (now 6-7) made a late run, but ultimately couldn’t come all the way back from a 20-point halftime deficit. Ernidia Goncalves was outstanding for the locals with 29 points and 18 rebounds. Kylie Gates added 18 points and dished out 10 assists, while SSU teammate Abuk Teng had 17 points and three steals.
