SOFTBALL
Peabody 9, Danvers 5: The Tanners scored six over the last two innings to roar back and top the Falcons. JJ Emerson (2-for-2) hit a 2-run double to tie the game and 5-5 and Mikayla Creamer followed with an RBI single to give her side the lead. Sophomore Olivia Guarino then stroked a 3-run homer in the bottom of the sixth to put the game away. Senior Elizabeth Bettencourt was intentionally walked four times and scored three, Guarino finished with five RBI and other hits came by Taylor King (two runs), Sydney Zizza and Kaylee DiNicola. Eighth grader Olivia Palmeiri earned her first varsity win in the circle, scattering eight hits.
For Danvers, freshman pitcher Ellie Lindeman fanned for over 5 2/3 while Kyla Moroney went 2-for-5 with two RBI and freshman Maddi Fuller hit a double.
Marblehead 7, Masconomet 1: Tessa Francis struck out nine and worked around six hits to help the Magicians prevail. Ashley Mortensen (2-for-4, 2 RBI) and Isabel Mortensen (2 runs, RBI) each hit for extra bases for Marblehead with Nora Mahan, Lucy Rogers and Hailey Schmitt also getting hits.
Masconomet saw freshman Gianna Martin hit an RBI double and fellow ninth grader Amelia Palermo come up with two hits.
Saugus 12, Swampscott 0: It was a tough opener on the road for the Big Blue.
BASEBALL
Marblehead 12, Masconomet 2: James Machado’s early hit gave Marblehead (1-0) the lead for good and Will DePhillips was credited with five RBI with going 2-for-2 in a huge debut. Sophomore Madden Lyons, Sawyer Adams and Collin Allen combined to hold the Chieftains (0-1) to just four hits with Benjamin Linehan and Liam Ginley getting two of those. Owen Coyne also had two hits for Marblehead.
Chelmsford 5, St. John’s Prep 3: Maxwell Parent went 2-for-3 with an RBI and Christian McCarthy also hit safely and drove in a run but the Eagles (0-1) were doomed by four defensive errors against the defending D1 state champs. Joey Eberhart fanned four in four innings and Owen Flanagan allowed one earned over three in a strong appearance.
GIRLS LACROSSE
Salem 17, Malden 6: Junior Makenzie Eichel scored six times while classmate Kailyn Ricciarelli had three goals and two assists to pace the Witches. Lily Navins also scored twice with Emily Mercer and Alana Roberts netting one each and Jackie Fritz providing a hat trick.
Pingree 13, St. George’s 2: Ellie Bracken had four goals with two assists and Isla Cleveland , Caitlin Cunningham and Liv Melei each scored twice to pace the Highlanders. Pingree moved the ball very well as seven of the 13 goals were assisted.
BOYS TENNIS
Pingree 4, Governor’s Academy 3: The Highlanders got big singles wins by junior Luke Leblond, freshman Jack Mulrooney and sophomore Zach Kavanaugh.
GIRLS TRACK
Masco wins two: Samia Lalikos won the shot put, discus, 100 and ran a leg of the winning 4×100 while Mara Siewko won the high jump javelin and hurdles to send the Chieftains by Beverly and Salem. Other double winners were Evy Mills (long jump, 4×100), Lidia Alberta (400, 4×400) with single wins by Ada Paglierani (low hurdles), Madi Gibeau-Schmitt (2-mile), Abigail Williams (800) and Savannah Stevens (4×400).
COLLEGE BASEBALL
Endicott 10, Salem State 0: Four Endicott pitchers combined to hold Salem State (6-7) to just two hits. Adam Regan and Kyle Grabkowski both hit home runs to pace the offense for No. 24 ranked Endicott (now 12-5).
Gordon 10, Colby-Sawyer 4: Carter Shin went 5-for-5 at the top of the order to set up the offense for Gordon (6-14). Cam Wilbur drove home two runs and Aaron Ferreira went 3-for-4 with three RBI.
COLLEGE SOFTBALL
Endicott 9, UNE 6: Catherine Seay went 2-for-3 and launched a homer as the Gulls (8-7) outslugged UNE. Ella Tower and Ava Kelley also both had three hits and pitcher Kristen Beebe struck out 14 batters.
Gordon 9, Lasell 6: Isabella Rivera went 3-for-4 and hit her first homer of the season and Emily Graham came on to shut down Lasell, throwing 4 1/3 scoreless innings and striking out five batters.
WOMEN’S COLLEGE LACROSSE
Salem State 15, Maine Farmington 3: Jordan Turcotte scored six more goals and the Vikings ran their unbeaten streak to seven to start the season. Masconomet grad Hannah Coleman also scored while Laura Young had five points and Danvers’ Kaylee Rich enjoyed another productive outing.
Colby 11, Endicott 10 (OT): Emmy Clark tied the game with 1:28 left but the nationally ranked Mules won it in overtime.
MEN’S COLLEGE LACROSSE
Salem State 16, Husson 12: James Tatro scored five times for the Vikings (6-3) while Landon Rice netted a hat trick with one assist and Peabody’s Cam Collins had one goal plus three helpers.
