GIRLS LACROSSE
Beverly 9, Brookline 8 (OT): Sasha Miller put on a cape and played the hero for the Panthers, scoring the game-tying goal with less than a minute left in regulation and then netting the winner with 0.1 seconds left in the first overtime for an exhilarating D1 tournament win at Forti Field.
NEC MVP Madeline Reynolds made 13 saves to keep No. 15 Beverly (18-1) in the game and seal her team’s 18th straight win. Miller finished with three goals and six draw controls, Ashley Wallace had a hat trick and an assist, Cameron Koloski scored and had two assists, Madz LeBlanc scored and Marisa Hutton also netted one.
The Panthers await either No. 2 Chelmsford or Malden Catholic in the next round.
Swampscott 9, North Reading 8: Cecelia Tripp scored four goals and Lilah Caplan made seven big saves to propel the No. 19 Big Blue (14-4) to an upset win over the 14th rated Hornets in D3 playoff action. Quinn Kelleher, Victoria Pierro, Reagan Pelletier and Bridget Urbano (two goals, two assists) also scored and Fiona Keaney had one helper. Swampscott will try to keep the upset train rolling Friday at No. 3 Nashoba.
Duxbury 16, Peabody 1: Senior Eleni Spack came up with six saves and Leah Ruffing had a strong defensive game but the Tanners (12-8) ran out of gas less than 24 hours after winning in the prelim round. Sophia Galbiari got Peabody on the board with an assist from Victoria Vaz.
Wayland 21, Essex Tech 2: The Hawks were overmatched in the D3 first round.
Bedford 21, Masconomet 7: The Chieftains found themselves tripled up in D2 tournament action.
St. Mary’s Lynn 18, Bishop Fenwick 8: In a CCL rivalry match in the Division 3 state playoffs, the Spartans got the better of the Crusaders.
Walpole 21, Marblehead 7: The Magicians saw a successful season end in their second D2 playoff game on the road.
GIRLS TENNIS
Ipswich 5, Quaboag 0: The No. 3 seed Tigers (11-5) opened the D4 playoffs with an impressive showing as Mae Borgman, Leila Harb and Sarah Belford all won by identical 6-0, 6-0 scores. Eve Melzack and Anna Kowalski won 6-1, 6-0 and Phoebe and Abbie Allen won 6-3, 6-0 to send Ipswich to the Sweet 16 round.
BOYS TENNIS
Marblehead 3, North Attleboro 2: In Division 2 playoff action, the Magicians won both doubles matches behind Adam Loughlin/Alex Boehning (6-0, 6-2) and Cordt Menzler/Filip Wabno (6-0, 6-3) to advance. At second singles, TJ Kelly cruised to a 6-1, 6-1 to send Marblehead through to the next round.
St. John’s Prep 5, Medford 0: The defending D1 champs cruised on by the Mustangs and will host the next round on June 1.
Hamilton-Wenham 5, Millbury 0: As the No. 1 seed in D4, the Gens had no trouble advancing and will host their next foe on June 1.
