SOFTBALL
Masconomet 10, Danvers 7: Down by six runs and not having scored themselves, the Chieftains (2-5) rallied for three runs in the fifth inning and seven more in the sixth to pull out the improbable win. Pitcher Sydnee Vocino had three hits, including a bases-clearing double. For the Falcons (now 2-3), Lila Flynn hit a solo homer in a 3-for-3 effort with two RBI and Briley Keezer had a hit and drove home a pair.
Salem 5, Saugus 4: Faith Sanchez-Schroeder was 4-for-4, Julia Gauther had a triple and Barbara Rowley and Tabatha Best each drove in runs as the Witches shaded the Sachems. Annie Thornett was exceptional in the circle with nine strikeouts and just four hits allowed.
Swampscott 5, Gloucester 0: Hayden Haskell spun a shutout for the Big Blue, with Amaya Scott hitting safely and Cece O’Connor making five putouts.
Bishop Fenwick 7, Bishop Stang 0: Alyssa Butler hit a solo homer while Tasha O’Brien and Val Tate each had two hits with an RBI to pace the Crusaders. Lulu Dias also went 2-for-3 and drove home three runs.
Newburyport 14, Ipswich 12: Liz Marsella had three hits and drove in a run while Elin Roberts added two hits and stole two bases in a slugfest. Liv Driscoll and Ava Poire added run-scoring singles while Cairo Teheen doubled home another run. Colleen MacDonald walked three times as well.
Newton Country Day 12, Pingree 2: Charlotte Loughman broke up a no-hitter late on a day where the Pingree offense struggled. Samahra Salah, Antonella Najim and Molly Degnan all played well.
BASEBALL
Beverly 1, Marblehead 0: Micah McManus threw six shutout inning and drove in Colby McLane with the game’s only run in the top of the seventh as the Panthers (3-1) snatched a lefty pitcher’s duel. Jon Reyes earned his second save for Beverly while Ian McComish was outstanding on the bump for Marblehead (3-3), striking out nine and allowing just three hits (none through six innings).
Danvers 4, Masconomet 2: In a rare bout at Burley Field, the Falcons (2-2) rode an outstanding complete game by Bryce Clark, who fanned eight and allowed only two hits. Beckett Wodarski’s double keyed a 3-run first inning with he, Clark and Chase Richmond collecting RBI. Drew Gustafson settled in for the Chieftains (1-3), fanning four, and Cruz Zizza (2 RBI) and Cal Weidman had their team’s only hits.
St. John’s Prep 10, BC High 3: Dylan Gaudet was 3-for-3 and the Eagles (2-3) exploded for seven runs in the sixth in a statement win at Frates Diamond. Will Shaheen had two hits, two runs and two RBI while tossing a complete game seven-hitter. Nic Lembo tripled and James Willett added two big hits for the winners.
Salem 2, Saugus 1: Senior captain Jordan O’Malley was the stopper for the Witches (2-4), punching out 11 and allowing no earned runs over 5 2/3 innings. Kevin Soto earned his second save and drove home Rocco Ryan (single) while Yan Tejada Ruiz also delivered a clutch RBI double to plate Jack Tsoutsouras.
Bishop Stang 4, Bishop Fenwick 3: Jason LaRosa hit a 2-run double to help Fenwick (1-4) tie it in the fourth, but Stang re-took the lead in the fifth as the Crusaders suffered their third one-run loss. Andrew Kiricoples also had two hits with an RBI and pitched admirably, going five innings and allowing two earned in his first start.
Gloucester 4, Swampscott 1: Nate Lee drove home Chase Groothuis for the lone run for the Big Blue (3-3), who had five hits total including two by Adam Sparacio. Jami Ford had a solid outing on the mound, striking out four with seven hits allowed and three earned.
GIRLS LACROSSE
Beverly 18, Danvers 3: Sasha Miller (4, plus 1 assist), Joselyn Silva (4), Madeline LeBlanc (3), Emily Baddershall (2) and Annabelle Miller (2, with 1 assist) were all multiple goal scorers in the BHS blowout. Lindsay Kaszynski (3 assists), Gwen Jones and Ashley Wallace (1 assist) also scored, with goalies Madeline Reynolds (0 saves, 0 goals allowed) and Meghan McCormack (9 saves) shining between the pipes.
Swampscott 17, Salem 2: The Big Blue stayed unbeaten (7-0) as Avery Laundry had a game high five goals while Bridget Maloney added two plus two assists. Cecelia Tripp and Victoria Pierro each had two goals and one assist; Chloe Puzzo had one snipe and two helpers; Fiona Keaney, Caroline Reen and Quinn Kelleher all had one goal and one assist, and Lila Girard and Bridget Urbano scored once each to support the work of goalie Lilah Caplan (4 saves).
Senior attack Sydney Ago and sophomore midfielder Kailyn Ricciarelli had the goals for Salem.
BOYS LACROSSE
Bishop Fenwick 10, Cardinal Spellman 6: The Crusaders (1-5) earned their first win of 2025 behind four goals from captain Nathaniel Ricciuti and three others from Jonathan Romans, two from Aidan Byrne and one from Jase Mansi. Long pole Lincoln Dugan excelled on faceoffs while goalies Ryan Zepaj and Liam Kelsch both starred.
Danvers 9, Beverly 8: Connor Harvey and Brady Tersolo each scored three times as the Falcons won. Freshman Ben Campbell added his first varsity goal for Danvers (3-3) while Tyler Moody and Tommy Cyr also scored. Harvey, Moody and Cooper Dunham (2) each had assists, and goalie Aidan Perry was sharp in stopping 11 shots.
Lucas Carbone made 16 saves for Beverly (now 0-5), with Kaleb Kaplan and Ridley Acheson netting three goals each. Chris McKie and Connor Wallace also scored while Will Burgess and Jonny Mezza each had one assist.
Marblehead 12, Peabody 3: The Magicians, behind six goals from Will Sullivan, scored eight times in the second half to improve to 3-2. Captain Reece Moore added three goals and two assist, Tyler Forbes scored once and helped on two others, Colin White connected for two tallies, captain Sean Dolan had three assists, and Owen Dulac, Bernardo Bannis and Kyle Thibodeau all had one assist. In net, Colin Maniaci finished with a dozen saves.
Captain Aiden Haight had 17 saves for the Tanners, with Jayden Kritikos scoring twice and assisting on Antonio Anzalone’s goal. Mason Clickstein added one assist.
Swampscott 13, Salem 3:
Andreas Bernal and Jake Lister both had a goal and an assist for the Witches (), with A.J. Alessi also scoring. Vincent Milano, a sophomore, turned aside 13 shots in net.
BOYS VOLLEYBALL
St. John’s Prep 3, Lawrence 0: The Eagles garnered an impressive 25-21, 25-13, 25-19 win thanks to the hitting percentages of Michael Wagner (.578) and Dillon McCarthy (.571), Ethan Sheehan’s 24 assists, and 13 points from Gio Rodriguez at the service line.
BOYS TENNIS
St. John’s Prep 5, Malden Catholic 0: Dropping just two sets, the Eagles (now 7-0) breezed. Senior Luke Prokopis won at second singles, 6-2, 6-0, while teammates Luke Free, Boris Kouzminov, and the doubles teams of James deBuy Wenninger/Wade Evitts and Ben Shore/Evan Haykal each swept their matches, 6-0, 6-0.
Marblehead 5, Winthrop 0: The Magicians swept up behind TJ Kelly (6-0, 6-0), Austin Bacon (6-1, 6-0), Adam Loughlin (6-1, 6-4) and the teams of Quinn Sullivan/Alex Boehning (6-0, 6-0) and Quinn Fletcher/Graydon Waller (6-0, 6-0).
GIRLS TENNIS
Marblehead 5, Peabody 0: Five straight set victories kept the Magicians rolling. Samara Dosch (6-1, 6-0), Nina Johnson (6-2, 6-2) and Abbie Goodwin (6-1, 6-3) prevailed in singles, while Lani Gilmore/Reese Friedman (6-0, 6-0) and Callie Gilmore/Josie Reers (6-1, 6-0) breezed in doubles play.
Bishop Fenwick 5, St. Mary’s Lynn 0: On Tuesday, Gwen Schroeder, Kit Wichroski and Callie Reed each won 6-0, 6-0 in singles play for Fenwick, as did Caroline O’Hare and Maggie Wichroski at first doubles. Jackie Dormer and Juliana Previte completed the sweep by taking a 6-2, 6-2 decision at second doubles.
Hamilton-Wenham 3, Ipswich 2: Three-set victories by Charlotte Ireland (4-6, 6-4, 6-4) and Evelyn Esdaile/Sofie Greene (6-2, 3-6, 6-3) enabled the Generals to pull off another exciting victory. Naomi Provost also cruised at first singles, 6-1, 6-0.
Sisters Lila and Mae Borgman provided a three-set win for Ipswich, 4-6, 6-4, 6-4 and Emily Hannibal prevailed, 2-6, 6-1, 10-1.
Swampscott 5, Winthrop 0: Straight set wins by Nikki Carr (6-1, 6-0), Ana Eccles (6-1, 6-0) and Lilly Carr (6-0, 6-0) plus the teams of Ava and Alexia O’Donnell (6-0, 6-0) and Janielle de la Cruz/Sasha Fafel (6-0, 6-1) powered the Big Blue.
Masconomet 4, Beverly 1: Senior captain Teagan Skulley (6-0, 6-1), Ria Kundalina (6-1, 6-0) and senior captain Sophia Donnellan (6-3, 6-2) won at singles for the Chieftains while Molly Flynn and Ava Zarrinea scratched out a 2-6, 6-3, 6-0 doubles point.
Winning for the Panthers were Grace Adams and Ella McAleer in an incredible 6-2, 4-6, 6-3 doubles battle.
GIRLS TRACK
Ipswich 91, Lynnfield 48: Triple winner Alana Novella (low hurdles, high hurdles, 400) sparked the Tigers while Soren Shearer won both the long jump and 800. Other winners were Mary Love (mile), Una Whyte (100), Lily Harper (200), Kameya Perron (pole vault) and Bree Doucet (discus).
North Reading 100.5, Essex Tech 30.5: Captain Olivia Feudo won the 400 (65.52) and PR’d in the 400 hurdles (1:11.47) for the Hawks. Nora Kisiel also performed well, coming back from an injury to run a 12.64 100 against UPenn bound Gianna Ligor (12.29) of the Hornets.
Amesbury, Hamilton-Wenham 70: Superstar Georgia Wilson won the long jump, 100 hurdles and 200 while Grace Rich prevailed in the mile, 800 and anchored the winning 4×400 relay for H-W. Sasha Makagonov (shot put and javelin) and Jemma Maunssell (triple jump) also starred for the Generals.
Masconomet 101, Danvers 31: Despite the setback, the Falcons got first place showings from Tess Ryan in the 100 and Grace Conklin in the 1000.
BOYS TRACK
Ipswich 80, Lynnfield 64: Ange Tshibambe claimed the high hurdles and the 400 while Alex Young doubled in the 800 and pole vault to send Ipswich to victory. Joe Wertz won the low Hurdles, Max Jones won the mile, Aidan Baran won the 2-mile and Eric Shea won the discus.
North Reading 100, Essex Tech 35: Jeff Mudruga won the mile in a personal best time of 4:53.9 for Essex Tech, which also got wins from while captain Tom Fogarty in the 2-mile (11:42.61), Graham Dineen in the 400 (54.03) and Makaio Bey in the long jump (20-2). Griffin Taylor (127-2) added a PR in the javelin, as did Victor Ortiz in the shot put (41 feet 6 1/2 inches).
Amesbury 74, Hamilton-Wenham 66: Ben Rich had a terrific day with wins in the mile, 800 and 2-mile for the Generals, with teammates Isaac Jones (400 hurdles), Dillon Harper (long jump), Yu Chan Ahn (pole vault) and Bryn Reid (200) also victorious.
