GIRLS TRACK
Peabody 68, Danvers 18: Ayanna Cirame won the hurdles and high jump to pace the unbeaten Tanners (3-0) in their home opening meet. Other winners were MacKenzie Miller (dash), Avani Ingham (300), Avery Marcus (600), Lauren Foley (1000), Ella Braz (mile) and Ricayla Adams (shot put).
Ipswich 72, Hamilton-Wenham 27: Alana Novello set a new Ipswich High record in the 55 hurdles in 8.91 seconds and the Tigers stayed perfect at 3-0. Novello also won the dash while Kameya Perron doubled in the high jump and long jump. Bree Doucet was first in the shot put, Mary Love won the 2-mile, Stella Whitten topped the 600, Soren Shearer won the 300 and Ipswich also claimed the 4×400.
BOYS TRACK
Ipswich 56, Hamilton-Wenham 44: Double-winner Ange Tshibambe won the hurdles and 300 and the Tigers (1-2) picked up their first victory. Other winners included James Dick (long jump), Luke Wile (shot put), Joe Wertz (600) as well as the 4×400 relay.
GIRLS HOCKEY
Masconomet 2, Marblehead 1: Seniors Elizabeth Shoemaker and Gabi Rudnyai scored as the Chieftains (3-5) won their third straight and prevailed on Senior Night at home. Fellow seniors Kaeley Forde and Madie Dupuis earned assists and sophomore Gabby Chiulli made 34 saves in net.
For the Lady Headers (3-6-1), Paige Waldman scored with an assist from Cassie Aceto. Nola Conley and Viola Fazio had solid all-around games, especially forechecking, and Nola Ferraressa made 19 stops.
Winthrop 2, Beverly 1: Avery LeBlanc crashed the net and scored the game-tying goal with 6:10 left in the third period but the Vikings netted the winner two minutes later in a thriller at Larsen. Asuka Keogh and Meredith Johnston assisted the tally and goaltender Avery Mason made a career-high 21 saves.
Algonquin 6, Peabody 0: The Tanners (3-5-1) went on the road and saw their two game win streak broken by the Titans (11-0), who are ranked No. 1 in Division 1.
BOYS HOCKEY
Bishop Fenwick 1, Triton 0: Chris Ferlito scored in the second period for the evening’s only lamplighter while goaltender Jackson Phillips made 22 saves for his first career shutout to power the Crusaders (5-5) to victory. Matt Martisaukas assisted on Ferlito’s goal, which came on the power play.
Xaverian 3, St. John’s Prep 1: Scoreless through two periods on the road, captain JR Goldstein tied the game with a power play goal in the third period for the Eagles (4-3-2) before Xaverian notched the game-winner. St. John’s Prep had a pair of Grade A chances with its goalie pulled, but couldn’t cash in on either one and the Hawks iced it with an empty netter. Jesse Bernardinelli finished with 24 saves between the pipes. Luke Horenstein and Christian Coleman assisted on Goldstein’s goal.
Peabody/Saugus/Swampscott 2, Marblehead 2 (OT): Seniors Brandon Barone and, with his first ever varsity goal, Matthew Scopa lit the lamp in the second period for the Tanners (3-2-1) to help earn them a tie. Goalkeeper Evan Tybinkowski stopped 37 shots in net.
The Headers earned their first point of the season after Hayden Gallo scored on the power play with under three-and-a-half minutes left in regulation. Goalie Bowden Laramie turned aside 28 shots for Marblehead (0-8-1), which also got a goal and an assist from Teddy Dulac, plus additional helpers from Will DePhillips and Holden Ferreira.
Winthrop 4, Masconomet 1: The Chieftains (1-8) continued to be snakebitten as Thomas Finn’s third period snipe was their lone goal. Jacob Sofronas was busy in the Masconomet cage, stopping 37-of-40 shots before the Vikings added an empty net goal. Nick Vetrano picked up an assist on Finn’s tally.
North Yarmouth Academy 5, Pingree 2: Captain Danny Patch gave the Highlanders (5-4-3) a 1-0 lead before the hosts potted four consecutive goals. Freshman Drew Gallucci had Pingree’s other tally, with Wyatt Langway, Graham Luskin and Connor Leminen picking up assists and goalie Von Larson stopping 29 shots.
SWIMMING
Danvers 89, Swampscott 79: Double-winners Zachary cotter (50 free, 100 back) and Max Scott (100 free, 100 breast) led the Falcons (1-2) to their first win and Taylor Landry picked up first in diving. Danvers also dominated the relays, with the medley relay team of Caleb Clark, Chris Pescione, Cotter, and Scott finishing first, along with the 200 freestyle relay of Landry, Eddie Nardone, Agnes Osminkin, and Pescione.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Beverly 54, Amesbury 44: Clara Kostro had a season-high of 23 points to lead the Panthers (2-8) on their home floor. Infinity Burns shined with 15 rebounds and a pair of blocks and Riley MacDonald scored 10 with three blocks.
Marblehead 48, Swampscott 36: Greta Sachs scored a dozen points and Lucy MacDonald added 10 to give the Magicians (now 5-3) a satisfying win over their arch rivals. Marblehead expanded on a three-point halftime lead behind a number of strong performances, including Tessa Andriano (8 points, 8 rebounds), Ainsley MacDonald (5 points, 3 assists), Carys Moran (2 points, 2 assists, 4 rebounds), Hailey Schmitt and Nora Mahan.
WRESTLING
Marblehead/Swampscott 42, Danvers 33: Wins by Colin Hart (175), Andrew Delisle (157) and Nolan Glass (150) helped Marblehead/Swampscott close strong and shade Danvers in a great meet. Other winners for the Black-and-Blue were Liam O’Brien (138), James Carey (113) and Kenny Drolete (120).
Danvers got victories from Jack Moreschi (106), Logan Jacques (126), Tommy Duval (165) and Drew McMahon (215).
GIRLS SKIING
Masco, Hamilton-Wenham split: The Chieftains topped the Generals, 82-53, while also falling to Andover, 76-60. Meanwhile the Generals also beat North Andover, 74-61, as both teams went 1-1 on the day. Hannah Mitchell was the top finisher for Masconomet with Emily Stearns and Violet Malinowski also coming in near the top. Maren McCaughey paced the Generals.
WOMEN’S COLLEGE BASKETBALL
Salem State 72, Framingham State 65: Maria Orfanos and Kylie Schrock helped the Vikings (6-8) pick up a league win at home at Twohig Gym.
Endicott 81, Gordon 75: Aleah Bracey rained seven triples down and scored 27 points to lead the Gulls (8-7) by the rival Scots (4-11). Tricia Wladkowski had an outstanding game as well with 25 points, eight rebounds, four assists and four steals. Gordon was led by Woynitu Ciccarello, who also scored 25.
MEN’S COLLEGE BASKETBALL
Framingham State 74, Salem State 55: Tyrese Rho had a team-high 12 points but the Vikings had a tough night, shooting 31 percent from the floor, in the MASCAC loss.
Endicott 86, Gordon 60: The nationally ranked Gulls improved to 14-1 with Matt Boen (17 points), Jeff Hill (14) and Elijah Kinney (12) all leading the way. Dean Brander led Gordon (4-10) with a dozen.
