GIRLS TENNIS
Ipswich 5, Rockport 0: The Tigers a sweep of their Cape Ann League rivals to improve to 8-2 on the season. Claire Buletza (6-1. 7-5), Abbie Allen (6-0, 6-0) and Emily Hannibal (6-3, 6-4) claimed victories in singles action for Ipswich, while Sophie Johannknecht and Lila Borgman prevailed at first doubles (6-1, 6-1), and Alex Marino and Frannie Hertz did the same at second doubles (6-1, 6-3).
Hamilton-Wenham 5, Amesbury 0: Naomi Provost (6-1, 6-0), Emily McIntosh (6-1, 6-1) and Charlotte Ireland (6-1, 6-3) were singles winners for the Generals (now 8-1). Olivia Romans and Evelyn Esdaile (6-2, 6-0) prevailed at first doubles, while Gabriella Jewitt and Sofie Green (6-3, 6-2) did likewise at second doubles.
Bishop Fenwick 5, Salem 0: The Crusaders moved to 6-3 on the year after sweeping the Witches. Gwen Schroeder (6-1, 6-2), Kit Wichroski (6-1, 6-0) and Callie Reed (6-0, 6-0) took home singles wins, while Caroline O’Hare/Maggie Wichroski (6-0, 6-0) and Jackie Dormer/Kylie Murphy (6-3, 6-2) did the same in doubles.
Ari Silot and Lucely Duell had strong performances for Salem in second doubles.
Danvers 3, Beverly 2: In a closely contested match, the Falcons received wins from Madison Savage (6-2, 6-3) at first singles, Sophie Sanidas (6-3, 1-6, 6-2) at second singles, and the first doubles team of Raina Langlois and Ava Nadeau (7-5, 6-7, 6-4).
Olivia Devereaux had a terrific comeback in third singles for Beverly, ralling from down 0-4 to go on and win, 6-2, 7-6. Claire Fitzgerald and Sophie Literrer added a victory in second doubles, 6-3, 7-5.
Masconomet 5, Peabody 0: Teagan Skulley, Ria Kundalina and Sophia Donnellan dropped just one game between them as the Chieftains rolled. Doubles wins were scored by Hannah Pietropaolo/Sienna Anvari (6-4, 6-2) as well as Kyra Fraser/Ava Zarrinea (6-2, 6-1).
Marblehead 5, Pentucket 0: Sami Dosch (6-2, 6-2), Nina Johnson (6-1, 6-3) and Abbie Goodwin (6-0, 6-0) were the singles winners and Reese Friedman/Lani Gilmore (6-1, 6-0) and Josie Reers/Callie Gilmore (6-0, 6-0) took home doubles victories to power Marblehead in a non-league match.
BOYS TENNIS
Ipswich 5, Rockport 0: The Tigers (5-6) stormed out of Rockport with a straight sets triumph. Singles winners were Grant Bowser (6-1,6-0), Nate Pitner (6-0, 6-2) and Yianni Nikolaou (7-5, 6-4), with doubles partners Cooper Bousum/Alex Wilt (6-3, 6-1) and Cole Flather/Rowan King (6-2, 6-0) following suit.
Marblehead 5, Beverly 0: Singles wins came from Etan Farfel (6-0, 6-0), Jayden Janock (6-0, 6-1) and TJ Kelly (6-0, 6-2) for the Magicians (9-1), which remained unbeaten in NEC competition at 8-0. In doubles, Ty Cooper and Alex Boehning (6-0, 6-1) and Austin Bacon and Quinn Fletcher (6-1, 6-1) also emerged victorious.
St. John’s Prep 5, Catholic Memorial 0: The Eagles (12-0 overall) won for the seventh time in seven Catholic Conference matches as Luke Free, Luke Prokopis and Boris Kouzminov each won 8-0 in singles play. James deBuy Wenninger and Wade Evitts won by the same score at first doubles, while Ben Shore and Evan Haykal prevailed, 8-4, at second dubs.
BOYS LACROSSE
Lynnfield 13, Ipswich 10: Despite four goals and a pair of assists from Finn Wright, the Tigers (8-3) saw their six-game winning streak snapped. Captain and LSM Louie Harrington scored three times with one helper; Luke Wile had a pair of goals; and Vin Winter also scored, with Massimo Pinsky and Spencer McDavitt adding one assist each. Connor Wright made 10 saves for Ipswich, which led by two in the third quarter but were unable to hold on.
Portsmouth Abbey 7, Pingree 6: The Highlanders saw their 12-game winning streak snapped with a road loss. Finley McClintock won 16-of-17 faceoffs and Max Becker made six saves in net for Pingree (12-2), whose offense came from Jake Hiltz (2G, A), Connor O’Neil (2G), Quinn Donovan (G, A), Matt Tersolo (G), Henry Card (2A) and Christian Renaud (2A).
Newburyport 16, Essex Tech 5: Running into a buzzsaw, the Hawks (7-5) got two goals from Timothy Tavares, one each from Chase Ruberti, Dom Cieslik and Tyler McHugh, three assists from Mason Gadbois, and 10 saves from Joe Dresser.
Archbishop Williams 20, Bishop Fenwick 6: Nate Ricciuti had three goals while Freddy Pfischer, Aidan Byrne and CJ Masone had one apiece for Fenwick (now 2-12).
GIRLS LACROSSE
Ipswich 16, Lynnfield 7: Allie Wile powered home five goals while Lyla Greenleaf had three goals and three assists as the Tigers (9-2) scored a strong team win. Lucy Winthrop (3 goals, assist), Keira McPartlin (3 goals), Taryn Desmond and Ella Schofield also scored for IHS, with goalie Emma Paquette making five saves.
Newburyport 17, Essex Tech 4: Bella Vetrano, Sydney Mace, Reese Curtis and Sophia Goudreau had the goals for the Hawks (4-8).
Landmark 12, Waring 6: Goalkeeper Sophia Vica had 19 saves for the Wolfpack (1-4), while teammates Izzy Scherbarth and senior captain Lola Prendergast both played well defensively.
BOYS VOLLEYBALL
St. John’s Prep 3, Andover 0: Michael Wagner and Jayden Pelletier had 21 and 17 kills, respectively, powering the Eagles to a 25-21, 25-17, 26-24 win. Graham Pasersky was also instrumental in the victory with 40 assists, and teammate Gavin Brownson hit .500.
SOFTBALL
Masconomet 3, Beverly 2: Angie Vecchio tripled to lead off the seventh and freshman Logan Schapp knocked her to break a 2-2 tie and send the Chieftains (6-7) scored an upset win. Sophomore Sydnee Vocino got the complete game win and Masco played excellent defense behind her. Vecchio finished with two extra base hits, two runs and an RBI and freshman Delilah Kastos also had two hits.
Beverly (9-3) managed just three hits, with Elsa Reulet and Jasmine Feliciano both going 1-for-3 with an RBI and Ella Campos adding a double. Lidia Miedema allowed just two earned runs and six hits while striking out four.
Salem sweeps Salem Academy: Lucy Gardner, an eighth grader, picked up her first varsity win while striking out five as the Witches (now 5-5) took down Salem Academy, 22-4, to sweep a doubleheader. Annie Thornett got the win in Game 1, 17-2, punching out 11 hitters. Liv Loux, Faith Sanchez-Schroeder, Julia Gauthier and Barbara Rowley all had multiple hits and runs scored in the pair of wins for Salem, while eighth graders Ellen Sullivan, Addi Miller and Rylee Bettencourt each got their first varsity hits.
Danvers 4, Lowell Catholic 0: Skylar Coakley struck out five in a well thrown five hit shutout and the Falcons moved to 7-5 with the non-league win. Sophomore Briley Keezer had two hits and two RBI and junior Addi McCarty tripled while driving in two runs and recording seven putouts.
Swampscott 10, Winthrop 5: Olivia Barletta had four of Swampscott’s 14 total hits as the Big Blue doubled up the Vikings. Lauryn Fahey also chipped in with three hits and Mia Tringale struck out four batters in her five innings of work.
Triton 7, Hamilton-Wenham 6: Bianca Fredrickson’s RBI single in the seventh gave the Generals the lead but Triton scored two in the bottom half to win it. Fredrickson finished the game 3-for-4 while Viola Fazio and Mia Broyles (two RBI) each chipped in two hits.
Newton Country Day 15, Pingree 4: Ava Meirz belted a homer and Molly Degnan was 3-for-4 with a triple and two RBI to lead Pingree. Charlotte Loughman also had three hits while Antonella Najim was 2-for-4 offensively and struck out five on the hill.
BASEBALL
Masconomet 11, Beverly 9 (8 innings): A pair of two out RBI singles by junior captains Cal Weidman and Drew Gustafson put Masconomet (4-7) ahead in the top of the eighth and Gustafson slammed the door on the Panthers (5-5) in the bottom half. The righthander wound up throwing the last four innings without allowing an earned run as Masconomet came all the way back after trailing 7-2. Weidman scored three times and Davis Deluties had three RBI.
Graham Gavin struck out 11 in just 4 2/3 innings for Beverly while Charlie Salerno went 2-for-4 with two RBI.
Danvers 5, Bishop Fenwick 2: Beckett Wodarski struck out nine and scattered five hits and the Falcons (6-7) broke their losing streak under the lights. Jakob Walters drove in two hits, Jack Curcuru had two hits and scored twice and Chase Richmond also doubled in a run.
Ty Santos hit a double for the Crusaders (3-12) while Matt Martusauskas went 2-for-3 with two RBI. Anthony Herbert held Danvers to two earned over five innings and Colin Churches tossed a scoreless sixth.
Peabody 3, Lowell 2: Joey Sinibaldi struck out the side for his third save and the Tanners (9-3) pulled off the win after squeezing home the go-ahead run in the bottom of the sixth. Jayden Cunningham’s RBI triple got Peabody going in that inning, Noah Crocker’s RBI single tied it and Ethan Waybret’s double put the go-ahead run on third. Dylan Annese threw six strong for Peabody, allowing two runs on seven hits.
Portsmouth Abbey 5, Pingree 2: Aidan Horgan drove in a run as Pingree (8-4) had a 2-0 lead but couldn’t hold it while dropping into the No. 2 seed in the upcoming EIL playoffs. Calvin Zimmerman, Dan Ferris, Drew Mullaney and Cole Piaseczynski all had hits and Jack Spear threw 2 2/3 scoreless innings.
Xaverian 1, St. John’s Prep 0: The Hawks scored the game’s only run with two outs in the top of the seventh and the Eagles (7-5) were held to just one hit, a single by Ty Spear. Senior Braeden Hurley pitched tremendously for St. John’s, allowing only four hits with five strikeouts through 6 2/3.
Winthrop 2, Swampscott 0: Will Brogna took the tough luck loss as he struck out seven in the complete game effort but the Big Blue (7-5) couldn’t get anything going at the plate.
COLLEGE BASEBALL
Endicott 4, Western New England 2: Three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning, including a two-run homer by AJ Hamm, enabled the top seeded Gulls (36-4) to take their CNE playoff opener. Peabody’s John Mulready added a run-scoring single in that inning, while Hamm delivered a run-scoring single two frames earlier.
COLLEGE SOFTBALL
Endicott 4, Williams 3 (8 innings): Pinch hitter Kyla Story’s three-run homer dramatically tied the game in the bottom of the sixth inning before Caroline Cummings raced home with the game-winning run on an infield error in the bottom of the eighth inning as the Gulls (22-13) emerged victorious in the CNE playoffs.
Salem State 7, Bridgewater State 6: Taylor McDermott doubled twice, scored a run and knocked home three teammates to propel the Vikings (18-18) in the MASCAC playoffs. Dawn Eisnor had a team-high three hits, scored a run and had one RBI for the winners.
