BOYS HOCKEY
Beverly 5, Amesbury 2: Logan Bowen added three more goals and one assist to his already impressive early season total and the Panthers moved to 2-0. Anthony Barror and Mikey O’Leary also lit the lamp in the win, with O’Leary adding two assists. Tyler Chin-Aleong stopped 28 shots in net, with solo assists going to defensemen Nate Wheeler and Ryan Everett.
Bishop Fenwick 4, Bedford 3: Chris Ferlito scored both the game-tying and game-winning goals in the third period to give Fenwick (1-1) its first win under new head coach Craig Seabury. Down two early, the Crusaders tied the game on goals from Liam Kelsch and Cam Garcia. Matt Martisaukas (2), Noah Hamonnd and Garcia (2) all had assists in the victory, with goalie Alex Anticevic stopping 26 shots.
Gloucester 7, Masconomet 3: Joe Ingalls had a goal and an assist but the Chieftains were outscored 3-0 over the final 90 seconds after pulling their goalie for an extra attacker, allowing one goal, and the Fishermen put away two more to close it out. Dom Politano and Thomas Finn also scored Masconomet with assists were notched by Tim McManus, Brendan Sheehan and Erik DePlacido. Jacob Sofronas made 22 saves in relief.
GIRLS HOCKEY
Bishop Fenwick 2, Arlington Catholic 1: Kailey Tinkham had a goal and an assist and the Crusaders (1-0) converted two power play chances for an early season statement win. Reese Robillard also scored with other assists going to Bella McCormack, Bella Marcinkowski and Alex Kohalmi. Goaltender Stella Madarese was outstanding in her first start with 30 saves.
Peabody 3, Medford 2 (OT): Sarah Mitchell scored the game-winner with 1:15 left in overtime to send the Tanners to a dramatic victory in their first game under new coach Guy Angiuoni. Goalie Sophia Downing also posted her first varsity triumph.
Pingree 9, Winsor 1: Riley Nugent had two goals with two assists and Sarah DiCenso and Olivia Polles both had two goals each in the rout for the Highlanders. Julia Ghergeruvich also had a great outing with three assists.
Gloucester 4, Masconomet 1: Ella Bevilacqua netted her first goal of the season in the third period but that was all the Chieftains (0-2) could get by Gloucester’s Kaydin Cusumano despite 40 shots on net. Masconomet goalie Gabby Chiulli made 21 stops.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
Bishop Fenwick 64, Newton South 30: The Crusaders (1-0) began the season with a statement as senior captains Caitlin Boyle (20 points, 7 rebounds) and Celia Neilson (17 points, 8 rebounds, 5 steals, and 4 assists) were dominant. Fellow senior captain Brittany Figulski and junior Kyleigh Pidgeon both had eight rebounds.
Hamilton-Wenham 51, Georgetown 42: Margot Bryce Morris had 18 points and the Generals (1-1) earned their first win by outscoring the Royals 11-2 in the fourth quarter. Gabriella Jewett added a career high 13 for H-W and Grace Harres scored 11.
Lynn Tech 32, Ipswich 30: Victoria Eaton had 10 points and eight steals but the Tigers dropped a heartbreaker late. Julia Hubbard scored six while Keria McPartlin added seven rebounds with four steals. Zao Scarano and Jade Deacon (10 rebounds) chipped in four each.
BOYS TRACK
Masconomet 49, Danvers 37: Among the winners for the Chieftains were Connall Strangman (mile), Tim Lull and Ed Keifer (tied in the 300), Quinn Lodewick (600), Duncan Cullinane (1000) and Owen Walsh (2-mile). Masconomet also won the relay behind Keifer, Nicco Cefalo, Spencer Linonis and Lull.
Panthers split: Beverly had a pair of down-to-the-wire meets, topping Gloucester 46-40 but falling to Marblehead 45-41. Floyd White won the dash (5.7) while Jason Provost won the 2-mile (10:37), Charlie Salerno had a lifetime best 6-foot high jump, Charlie Bossler ran a 2:52 in the 1000 and Jackson Oliver clocker 1:36 in the 600.
GIRLS TRACK
Beverly splits: The Panthers opened by topping Gloucester (59-27) but falling to Marblehead (51-35) with overall first place finshes by Issa Friederichs (hurdles), Chloe Bossler (mile) and Katty Kwapniewski (300). Winning against Gloucester were Jaydin Simpson (dash), Mackenzie Poulet (600), Grace Williams (1000) and Caroline Outin (2-mile).
BOYS BASKETBALL
Danvers 63, Wakefield 49: Captains Kyle Sillars, Connor DiTomaso and Luca Tirella led the way as the Falcons grabbed their first win of the season. Sophomore Matt McCrea also gave Danvers a nice spark off the bench.
