The Lockport Fire Department is investigating a Tuesday night fire at a home on Webb Street.
Firefighters were called to the multi-family residence about 9:50 p.m. following 911 calls reporting flames coming from the home’s roof. When firefighters arrived, flames were spotted near the roof line at the rear of the home.
The initial fire attack crew from Engine 8, led by Lieutenant Burke, entered the home via the front door up to the second floor and began a search for the fire. Simultaneously a second crew deployed to the rear of the home and began extinguishing the fire on the rear wall and roof eaves. The interior crew quickly recognized an attic fire and breached the second floor ceilings to expose the fire.
A third crew ruled out extension into the first floor and basement.
Fire damage was primarily kept to the attic space with the exception of a second-floor closet. Water and smoke damage was suffered throughout the home. The fire was brought under control within 40 minutes of LFD arrival and suppression crews were complete within three hours.
There were no injuries reported.
Four occupants, including the owner were home at the time of the fire and able to exit safely on their own after a neighbor alerted them to the roof being on fire. They are being assisted by the Red Cross. One cat was located safely and treated with oxygen on scene, a second cat remains unaccounted for. Four lizards on the first floor also survived.
The estimated damage to the home is $50,000.
