ALPENA — A fire at WCMU’s transmitter building caused an indefinite shutdown for the Alpena region, according a WCMU statement.
The Feb. 28 fire rendered the building a “total loss,” and the cause is currently under investigation, the statement read.
The primary disruption is to on-air viewers of WCML-TV Channel 6 and to WCML-FM 91.7 with a repair period to last several months, as well as a temporary disruption to WCMW-FM 103.9 Harbor Springs, the statement read.
WCMU will continue to broadcast news, information and classical music online at WCMU.org, on WMCU and TuneIn apps, or on alternate FM stations 95.7, 96.9 and 98.3. Viewers can also find WCMU television programming on cable, satellite, website and the PBS app.
