CUMBERLAND — Live music and vintage automobiles are part of the entertainment in Cumberland’s Historic City Center on Friday, hosted by the Downtown Development Commission. The event will be held in Cumberland’s newly renovated downtown in front of the waterfall at the Liberty Street parklet.
Music begins at 6 p.m. with local musician Black Guy Fawkes, followed by Butterscotch Blonde. Butterscotch Blonde will be on stage from 7:30 to 10:30 p.m. The group consists of Mark Gowans, lead vocals and guitar; Brian Plitnik, bass and vocals; and Bart Lay, drums and vocals. Formed in 2014, the group has been performing a blend of rock and dance hits from the ‘70s through today across Western Maryland and the tri-state area.
In celebration of National Collector Car Appreciation Day, July 11, the Queen City Region Antique Car Club will have vintage cars and hot rods on display during Friday After Five. The cars will be parked on Baltimore, Centre and Liberty streets.
“Americans have had a fascination with automobiles since horseless carriages have been in existence,” said Kyle Blake, president of the Queen City Regional Antique Car Club. “Car enthusiasts and hobbyists play a significant part in making sure that part of our history remains alive.”
There is no registration fee to participate in the car show. Owners of antique cars and hot rods are encouraged to bring their vehicles to Friday After Five. Cars must be parked and in place between 4 to 5 p.m. on Baltimore Street and after 5 p.m. on Centre and Liberty streets.
An open container ordinance will be in effect throughout the DDC district. Baltimore, North Liberty and North Centre streets will be closed for the event.
Lawn chairs are welcome and attendees are encouraged to patronize downtown businesses for food, drinks and shopping throughout the evening. Baltimore, Centre and Liberty streets will be closed for traffic and parking at 4 p.m. on Friday.
