Residents in several villages will head to the polls Tuesday, March 18 to elect mayors, trustees and village justices.
New mayors will be elected in the villages of Cherry Valley and Otego as the incumbents are not seeking reelection.
While most races are uncontested, three people are running for mayor in Walton, and there are contested mayoral races in New Berlin, Fleischmanns and Otego.
There is one contested village justice race in Sherburne and the winner will serve out an unexpired term that has been vacant. Fleischmanns, Franklin, Sidney and Unadilla all have contested races for village trustee positions.
In other villages, write-in candidates will be selected as trustees. Polls will be open from noon to 9 p.m.
The following is a list of candidates by county, then village.
Chenango County
Afton – no election this year.
Bainbridge – no election this year.
Earlville – Thomas Taylor is running for mayor on the Common Sense line. Henry R. Moore is running for village justice on the Citizens for Action line. Mark Golden is running for one of the two-year trustee positions on the Earlville for Earlville line. Write-in candidates will fill the second two-year trustee position and a one-year unexpired trustee position.
Greene – Mayor Jessup DuMond is seeking reelection, Rachel Miller is seeking the village justice position, and Jodi Najarian and Shane Storman are seeking the trustee positions.
New Berlin – Mayor Peter Lennon is seeking reelection against Lisa Serradilla. James Crawford is seeking the two-year trustee term, while Kelly Banks is seeking a one-year trustee term.
Oxford – Village election is in June.
Sherburne – James Matott and Richard Romanowski are running for village justice. The winner will serve out the three-year unexpired term that has been vacant.
Smyrna – Information was not known as of press time.
Delaware County
Delhi – Mayor Jeff Gearhart is running for reelection. Two trustees Ian Lamont and Janet Tweed are also running for reelection.
Fleischmanns – Mayor Samuel Gil is running for reelection and will be faced by Gloria Zola Mulloy. Stuart Cohen, Miguel Martinez-Riddle and Harrold Kuhn are running for the two trustees positions.
Franklin – Lisa A. Heimbauer and Morgan McLean are running for the one two-year trustee position.
Hancock – Mayor Shaun Shannon and trustees Ricky Kuehn and Shane Mielke are running for reelection for their two-year positions.
Hobart – Mayor Aaron Kaufman is running for reelection. Amy Reinshagen and James W. Querino are running for two four-year trustee terms, while Randy Roe is running for trustee to fill a one-year vacancy.
Margaretville – Mayor John C. Hubbell and trustees Iris Mead and Sarah Hubbell are running for reelection for their two-year terms.
Sidney – Victor Tartaglia, Patricia Cristelli and Luther Higley are seeking the two trustee positions. Andrew Skrobanski is seeking the village justice position.
Stamford – There is an open four-year trustee position open with no candidates on the ballot. The person with the most write-in votes will win election.
Walton – Three people are running for mayor — Edward H. Snow Sr., the current mayor, Eddie Torres and Bjorn Eilertsen. Beth A. O’Brien is running for one of the two, two-year trustee positions, while Eric Northrup is running for the one, one-year trustee position. A write-in candidate will fill the second, two-year term. Chad E. Hall is running for village justice.
Otsego County
Cherry Valley – Jeff Stiles is running for mayor on the Republican line. K. Don Brigham is running on the independent line for trustee. They will replace Mayor Louis Guido and Trustee Edward Harvey, who are not seeking reelection.
Cooperstown – There are two three-year trustee positions open. Richard Sternberg and Audrey Porsche are running on the Democratic and Many Voices, One Village Party lines.
Gilbertsville – Aidan Woishnis is seeking the mayor’s position, and Diane Gallo and Larisa Waghorn-Muller are seeking the two, two-year trustee positions.
Laurens – Candidates are, for mayor, Frank Kovacs; one two-year trustee, Tom Halstead, and for one, one-year trustee Starr Liddle. The polling place will be the Laurens Presbyterian Church at 3 Main St.
Milford – Mayor Brian Pokorny and Trustee Michael Strong are running for reelection for their two-year terms.
Morris – William Burdick is running for reelection for his four-year trustee term.
Otego – Two people are running for the open mayoral seat. David A. Clapper Jr. is running on the Republican and Democratic party lines and Zackary S. Corbett is running on the Independent Party of Public Service line.
Richfield Springs – There are three open trustee seats. While no one is on the ballot, Fred Culbert, Luke VanRiper and Brian Boss announced in the Pennysaver that they were running for the positions, Village Clerk Lori Gilliam said in an email.
Unadilla – Four people are running to fill two, two-year trustee positions — Eileen Scott and Kaleigh Barber are on the Democratic lines and Crystal Lee Dimeo Johnson and Christopher Beckwith are on Independent lines.
Schoharie County
Schoharie County villages will hold elections in November.
