The Lewiston village board gave its support to the final development plans for a new Center Street building replacing one that was demolished following a 2022 fire.
The board voted 3-0 for the conditional approval upon further review and approval from Village Engineer Michael Marino. Board Member Jim Fittante, the building’s architect, abstained and Deputy Mayor Victor Eydt was absent.
The proposed two-story building would have commercial space on the bottom floor and a two-bedroom apartment on the upper floor. It would take up 1,341 square feet of the lot, have a maximum height of 35 feet, and connect to the neighboring building housing Vincenzo’s Pizza House.
They also gave a negative SEQR declaration.
The previous building on the site, 744-748 Center St., burned on Nov. 30, 2022, due to a transformer fire. The building had housed three small businesses which have since moved to other locations.
Only after Marino gives his approval would the village grant any building permits. Fittante had previously told the Gazette this would take six to 12 months to construct and work will start as soon as possible.
