MEDINA — Medina Police Department released the name of a pedestrian who was struck by a vehicle and killed on West Avenue this past Saturday.
Kellie Staschak, 55, of Medina, was walking east through the crosswalk on the south side of the intersection at West Avenue and West Center Street when she was struck by a westbound pickup turning onto West Avenue.
MPD and Medina Fire Department were dispatched to the scene at 11:40 a.m. and were assisted by citizens in providing first aid. Medina ambulance arrived shortly after and assisted with advanced treatment, according to police chief Todd Draper.
Despite all the efforts, Staschak was pronounced dead at the scene.
Following the incident, the intersection and surrounding streets were closed for approximately three hours while the on-scene investigation took place. The New York State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit responded to the scene and is assisting with the investigation.
Witnesses confirmed the pickup had a green light, and law enforcement has confirmed cell phone use was not a contributing factor, Draper said.
