Niagara Falls police have identified the victim of a fatal crash between an e-bike and a tow truck on Friday.
Crash Investigation Unit (CIU) detectives also said Tuesday that “no charges are pending” against the tow truck operator.
The victim of the crash has been identified as Scott Read, 59, of the Falls.
Patrol officers were called to the intersection of Ontario Avenue and Lockport Street at around 11:42 a.m. Friday for a report of a crash between a tow truck and a folding e-scooter.
Officers said when they arrived, they found Read lying in the intersection with severe injuries.
After being treated at the scene, Read was rushed to Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
CIU investigators said their preliminary findings, which included a review of video taken from cameras located in the area of the accident, showed that a 2018 Dodge Ram tow truck, traveling west on Ontario Avenue, was passing through the intersection with Lockport Street, with a green light, when it collided with “a folding e-scooter that had entered the intersection. The bicyclist was reportedly traveling the wrong way on 16th Street, a one-way roadway, and had made a wide right turn in front of the truck while facing a red light.
Police said the tow truck operator was uninjured in the crash and remained at the scene. CIU investigators said he has been cooperating with their continuing probe of the crash.
New York State Police are also assisting Niagara Falls police with their investigation.
