ATKINSON — The Atkinson Veterans Club recently held its first cookout for members and guests at the Plaistow Fish & Game Club, bringing about 40 veterans and guests together for an afternoon of food and fellowship.
The sunny, warm gathering gave club members an opportunity to socialize and spouses a chance to meet other members while enjoying a spread of homemade dishes and grilled favorites, including burgers, hot dogs and chicken.
Vice Commander John Sobutka, who organized and hosted the event, greeted guests, checked on tables and kept everyone supplied with refills. Sobutka also shared his homemade custard with maple syrup. Commander Jack added a tray of brownies to the dessert table.
The Atkinson Veterans Club meets on the first Tuesday of each month from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at Atkinson Community Center, 1 Academy Ave. All veterans are welcome to attend.
