It’s the middle of October and the end of fall break for many Danville area families, so find a place this weekend to take the family.
There are many places within Vermilion County for Halloween activities from pumpkin patches to local places to get your fall favorites.
One such place is at the Farmhouse Market in Georgetown, located at 106 Pearl Street.
You can find pumpkins and mums to decorate your porch before Halloween.
Jeanne McCrowne, the owner of Farmhouse Market, which has been in operation since 2017, said her family is a bunch of entrepreneurs, so her path makes sense.
“I started in my front yard and put myself through college and grew from that every year,” McCrowne said. “As we started to grow, we brought two lots in Georgetown, and made it into a 4-seasons store.’’
They just added a little barn in Tilton, where they will sell meats and cheese in the off-season, which starts after November. Currently, they have pumpkins and produce available there as well as jams, jellies, flowers, mums, and more.
“It’s pretty much like a small specialty grocery,” she said. “We also work with local farmers, so our corn stalks and some of the pumpkins we get local, and we grow stuff too. The Lamberts who farm, who do straw, we sell straw for them.”
The Farmhouse Market is a “small business supporting small business,” she said.
In the future, the Farmhouse Market is going to have their own line of sauces, jellies, and jams, and tomato-based things all in-house.
“I like to support more of the local restaurants with local produce too, so you eat where you live,” she said. “We do sell to some restaurants, but we do want to reach out to more local restaurants,” she added, “ and they are permitted by the health department. To do so.
The main location is in Georgetown and there is a small garden center next to it, as well as an adjacent outdoor gardening area. They also have a roadside stand at 2019 Georgetown Road in Tilton. It is open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and on Sundays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
McCrowne said they will be selling bales of straw year-round.
