The VA Illiana Health Care System is getting part of the $4.8 billion nationwide funding for the Danville facility.
Jennifer Sheehan-Wells, the Health System Specialist and Public Affairs Officer for the VA Illiana Health Care System in Danville, says the upgrades to the facility will support the veterans.
“VA Illiana serves nearly 30,000 Veterans across 34 counties in central Illinois and west-central Indiana,” said Associate Director Richard Griffith. “This funding will support ongoing repairs and upgrades at our historic Danville campus, which provides inpatient mental health care, Community Living Center services, residential rehabilitation, and other key programs for Veterans.”
The funds are to help modernize, repair, and improve the facility.
“Improved facilities, equipment, and infrastructure mean better care for Veterans, and these funds will enable VA Illiana Health Care System to achieve that goal,” said Dr. Staci Williams, Executive Director. “Better care for Veterans is our goal, and these projects will enable us to achieve just that.”
A few of the projects that will be done according to Sheehan-Wells are:
Infrastructure upgrades for the Electronic Health Record Modernization in support of patient care.Upgrades to the fire protection and emergency notification systems in five buildings. Replacement of chillers and/or air-handling units in three buildings to improve indoor air quality, patient comfort, and overall energy efficiency.Replacement of the air-handling unit serving surgical areas to improve temperature control in preoperative spaces and common areas, ensuring a safe, stable, and comfortable environment for Veterans awaiting surgery.
“This important investment will improve the safety and reliability of our facilities, support the rollout of VA’s new electronic health record, and help us continue providing high-quality care to the Veterans we serve,” Griffith says.
