For those plant lovers who just have to be among plants, especially the newer varieties that are hard to find, come to the University of Tennessee plant sale at the Plateau Research and Education Center on Hwy 70 N on Saturday, May 4.
The plant sale will be in the pavilion, keeping everyone dry in case spring showers bless the sale day.
Special offerings will include the beautiful hybrid impatiens, one of the few flowers that bloom all summer in the shade; sun-loving calibrachoa in new shades; lots of perennials including variegated peonies; a climbing false hydrangea with a mysterious name; yellow butterfly weed; shrubs and more. A complete list is available at the Master Gardener website, ccmga.org.
All profits from this annual sale go to the Discovery Gardens to buy necessary items like mulch, replacement plants and name tags. Be sure to visit the Gardens while you’re there and enjoy the various themes of each plot such as the conifer garden, butterfly garden, children’s garden, perennial garden and turf plot. You’ll see how plants actually look years after planting.
Discovery Gardens is open seven days a week during daylight hours with no cost to the public. The address is 320 Experiment Farm Road, about 6 miles north of the Flea Market on the right side of the road.
