The pilot of a small plane was killed after it crashed along the Niagara Scenic Parkway, northeast of Fort Niagara State Park, late Saturday morning.
The Cessna 208 was operating from Skydive the Falls, according to the Niagara County Sheriff’s Office, and had released skydivers prior to the crash. The pilot was the only person on board.
Reports of the plane crash came in around 11:40 a.m. Saturday with sheriff’s deputies, New York State Police troopers, Town of Lewiston police and State Parks Police responding. The crash resulted in a brush fire which was extinguished by members of the Youngstown Volunteer Co.
Notification was made to the Federal Aviation Administration and the National Transportation Safety Board.
The sheriff’s office said the scene will be secured until a complete investigation can be performed.
