RAWLINGS — Investigators say a Keyser, West Virginia, man was killed Monday morning on McMullen Highway after a motorcycle crash.
Dacota Craig Powers, 27, was pronounced dead at the scene by EMS personnel Monday after a crash was reported to the Allegany Joint Communications Center just before 10 a.m., according to Allegany County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Christopher Hill.
Hill said high rates of speed were a factor in the crash.
The operator was wearing a helmet, but it became dislodged during the crash, Hill said.
Monday’s crash in the 23000 block of McMullen Highway is the same area as a fatal crash killing a logging truck driver on Feb. 19, 2024, according to Hill.
Units from Rawlings and Keyser volunteer fire departments, an ambulance from Tri-Towns EMS, Allegany County Department of Emergency Services and a county EMS supervisor responded to the call.
A Maryland State Police helicopter was requested but canceled after first arriving units confirmed the operator was deceased.
The Allegany County Sheriff’s Office Crash Team is continuing its investigation.
