OAKLAND — A Garrett County man who allegedly held a woman against her will at a Mountain Lake Park home was arrested Thursday following a 14-hour standoff, Sheriff Bryson Meyers said.
Adam Jeremy Spaulding, 29, of Mountain Lake Park, was charged with extortion, assault and false imprisonment, according to Meyers.
Meyers said deputies were dispatched to the 100 block of South Oakhall Drive in Mountain Lake Park about 4:30 a.m. for a well-being check. A woman in the residence, who law enforcement did not identify, was removed from the residence before Spaulding barricaded himself in the house.
Detectives from the sheriff’s office criminal investigation division obtained an arrest warrant for Spaulding, according to the sheriff.
Spaulding was being held at the Garrett County Detention Center and awaiting a bond hearing, Meyers said.
Maryland State Police Special Operations Division, FBI Baltimore Office, Allegany County Sheriff’s Office Special Operations Response Team, troopers from MSP’s McHenry barrack, Oakland Volunteer Fire Department and Southern Garrett Rescue Squad responded to the incident.
“I would like to express my gratitude to the allied agencies for their cooperation, which helped bring the investigation to a safe and successful conclusion,” Meyers said.
