Simard makes history
Haverhill’s Cailey Simard recently made history, becoming the first athlete in Bridgewater State University history to advance to the NCAA Division 3 Swimming and Diving Championships.
Simard, a junior, is one of 29 women’s divers to earn a spot at the meet, which will be held from March 19-22 at The Old Dominion Athletic Conference and the Greensboro Aquatic Center.
Simard posted an 11-dive score of 415.35 to place sixth on the one-meter board at the NCAA Division 3 Northeast/North Women’s Diving Championships.
Check in from Fort Myers
In case you missed it, Eagle-Tribune sports editor Bill Burt spent the past week at Red Sox spring training, and a number of interesting videos from the trip are available at eagletribune.com.
They include an extensive video tour of JetBlue Park — AKA Fenway South — with former Lowell Spinners general manager Shawn Smith, an interview with Red Sox first baseman Triston Casas, and even checking in with a Methuen native visiting spring training.
Praise for Cerullo
With the news that North Andover has hired Matt Cerullo as its new head football coach, plenty of praise has come in for the longtime Scarlet Knights and Lawrence High assistant. Here are a few examples:
Former North Andover football star Nick Ankiewicz: “A hardworking, committed, and highly skilled coach that will be taking this program to the next level!!!!”
North Andover boys hockey coach Scott Greene: “Congrats coach! You bring a lot of passion to North Andover athletics, not just football. Keep it up!”
Lawrence High boys basketball coach and fellow Lawrence native Mike Isola: “Proud of you brother! Another success story of a Lawrencian!! Big things in store for you.”
Step up for Bobo?
Could former North Andover resident Jake Bobo be stepping into a bigger role with the Seattle Seahawks?
With the Seahawks releasing receiver Tyler Lockett, and fellow wideout DK Metcalf requesting a trade, Bobo would be the second most accomplished receiver on the roster, after star Jaxon Smith-Njigba. Obviously, more moves would be made. But could Bobo (13 catches, 107 yards last fall) — who has appeared in all 17 games each of the last two seasons — step into a more prominent position in Year 3?
One Final Thought
As Michael Muldoon used to say, “If you can bring a smile to someone’s face today, just do it!
