Bruins honor Morris
Methuen High senior forward Patrick Morris was the Merrimack Valley Conference/Dual County League Division 3 honoree for the Boston Bruins-MIAA Hockey Sportsmanship Award for the 2023-24 season.
According to a press release by the Bruins, the award honors, “Student-athletes from across the state that exemplify a commitment to sportsmanship, teamwork and dedication on the ice and off.”
In all, 27 boys and girls from across the state were honored in a ceremony during the Bruins’ game against the Ottawa Senators on Thursday.
Morris finished the season with six goals and 10 assists for the league champion Rangers.
Mosto takes Ford Award
Salem High’s Gabriella Mosto has been named the New Hampshire Basketball Coaches Association (NHBCO) Jack Ford Award winner for Division I.
The award is named in honor of former Winnacunnet head coach Jack Ford, “As a balance to the Mr./Ms. Basketball Award which is geared towards the ‘best player.’ Jack Ford had insisted that basketball, academics and community service be taken into equal consideration (each 33 percent).”
Mosto played a key role for the Blue Devils as a junior forward. She scored 17 points in a state tournament win over Bishop Guertin.
LeBrun to Saint As
Eagle-Tribune All-Star Andover High defensive back/punt returner Connor LeBrun will play his college football at Saint Anselm College (Goffstown, N.H.), the school announced on “X,” the platform formally known as Twitter.
LeBrun is coming off a breakout senior season. He made a Golden Warrior school record nine interceptions, to go with 38 tackles (29 solo) and knocked down 23 passes. He had two-interception games against Lowell and Billerica. He also accumulated 353 yards and a touchdown in punt returns.
The 2023 Saint Anselm football roster featured two locals — former Methuen standout Braeden Carter, a sophomore defensive back, and Salem’s Jake Brady, a junior defensive back.
Captains Corner
The high school sports spring preseason is just underway, and we at The Eagle-Tribune still to honor the area’s high school captains as part of our Captains Corner series. Coaches — or parents or the athletes themselves — who would like their captains featured are welcome to submit a photo to dwillis@eagletribune.com. Photos should have all captains featured and ideally in uniform.
One Final Thought
As Michael Muldoon used to say, “If you can bring a smile to someone’s face today, just do it!
