The Unatego girls basketball team took down Odessa-Montour 54-30 at home on Wednesday in the opening round of the Section IV Class C playoffs.
The Spartans’ defense was stifling from the opening tip, holding O-M to just eight points in the first half. On offense, ten different players scored points in the win.
Lizzie Craft had a team-high 14 points while Harly Birdsall followed close behind with 13 and Avery James added eight.
Unatego (14-5) will host Marathon on Saturday in the quarterfinal round.
Franklin 39, Hunter-Tannersville 30
Franklin held off Hunter-Tannersville 39-30 at home on Wednesday to advance in the Section IV Class D playoffs.
Shannon Kingsbury was the game’s top scorer for the Purple Devils with 19 points. Riley McNamara also finished in double-figures with 10 points.
Julia Legg paced H-T with 12 points while Lily Constable added seven.
Franklin (10-9) will visit top-seeded South Kortright on Saturday in the Class D Quarterfinals. Hunter-Tannersville ends its season with an overall mark of 11-10.
Class C results
Other local girls teams were in action in the Class C playoffs on Wednesday.
Tenth-seeded Delhi defeated Candor 57-38 on the road, ninth-seeded Bainbridge-Guilford fell to Southern Cayuga 58-45, eleventh-seeded Richfield Springs lost to Union Springs 65-49 and number 14 seed Oxford fell to Moravia 50-32.
