February is Black History Month, and Upper Cumberland Diversity Advocates is celebrating with a display at the Art Circle Public Library and sponsoring a concert at the Cumberland County Playhouse.
The display at the library runs through February and highlights the history of Africa and its people during pre-colonial, colonial, and post-colonial periods.
Billie Holiday: God Bless the Child is a concert to be presented by the Jazz Legacy Project at 7 p.m. Feb. 26.
“Featuring the remarkable Maria Howell, this tribute explores Holiday’s ground-breaking contributions to jazz, her unique artistry, and her courageous fight for equality,” said John McArthur of UCDA. “Through live music, narration, and rare video footage, audiences will gain a deeper understanding of how Holiday’s legacy shaped generations of musicians and paved the way for women and African-Americans in the industry.”
Tickets are available through the Cumberland County Playhouse at ccplayhouse.com or by calling 931-484-5000.
