Two tenants of a duplex on Juniper Street were displaced due to a fire early Monday.
Lockport Fire Department fielded a call about a fire in the attic at 93 Juniper St. at 5:51 a.m. Two occupants and their dog were at home at the time and were able to leave the residence on their own unharmed, according to Fire Chief Luca Quagliano.
Upon their arrival firefighters saw fire venting from the peak of the roof near the chimney, Quagliano said. The “bulk of” the fire in the middle of the attic was put out quickly and then first responders turned to finding hot spots in void spaces. Crews operated on scene for about four hours, Quagliano said.
The second and first floors of the duplex sustained water damage. The initial loss estimate is $40,000 to the property and $10,000 to contents.
The cause of the fire is believed to be accidental. Investigation was ongoing late Monday morning.
