HAMILTON — Two residents were displaced following a fire at a single-family home on Berrywood Lane on Wednesday.
The Hamilton Fire Department responded to a report of a fire at a home at 48 Berrywood Lane at 6:20 p.m. on Wednesday. With mutual aid received from crews from Hamilton, Wenham, Essex, and Manchester-by-the-Sea, the fire was extinguished after about 16 minutes, followed by about an hour of overhaul to check for remaining hot spots.
While crews operated at the scene, additional fire crews from Beverly, Ipswich, and Topsfield covered the Hamilton Fire Station to ensure continued coverage.
While the majority of the damage was contained to the garage — which was the fire’s point of origin — there was some extension into the main part of the house, which resulted in the two occupants being displaced, authorities said. No injuries were reported.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation, but does not present as suspicious, according to Hamilton Deputy Fire Chief Daniel Sullivan.
