There are no new updates on two shootings that took place in Dalton on Sunday.
“Unfortunately, there is no new information to release on either case at this time,” said city of Dalton Communications Director Bruce Frazier on Friday. “I just followed up with CID (the Criminal Investigation Division) and they don’t have any information to put out there. Both cases are still under active investigation.”
The Dalton Police Department is looking for 29-year-old Damien E’Shaud Johnson of Dalton, the suspect in a shooting on West Walnut Avenue. No one was injured in that shooting. He is a Black male standing approximately 5 feet, 11 inches and weighing 190 pounds. He was last seen wearing a white tank top T-shirt and an Atlanta Braves baseball cap. Anyone who has information on his location is asked to call 911. The police department has obtained warrants for his arrest on charges of aggravated assault and reckless driving.
The incident happened at approximately 1:30 p.m. Police said two drivers, one driving a white Audi and one in a gray Honda Accord, became involved in a traffic incident involving aggressive driving near the Krystal on East Walnut Avenue.
Both vehicles continued west on Walnut Avenue, and the incident continued to escalate. When the vehicles reached West Walnut Avenue near the intersection with Market Street, investigators say the driver of the white Audi fired several gunshots at the gray Honda, striking the vehicle but missing the occupant. The driver of the Audi fled and the alleged victim remained and waited for police.
A separate, and police say unconnected, shooting left a man with injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening.
That shooting happened at around 4:15 p.m. at the intersection of Hamilton Street and Tyler Street. Two men told police they were walking together on the sidewalk on the northwest corner of the intersection when a vehicle passed them traveling south on Hamilton Street. The men told police someone in the vehicle shot at them approximately five times and one man was struck in the back of his shoulder. He was standing up and talking when police arrived. He was taken to Hamilton Medical Center by ambulance for treatment.
Anyone who has information on this incident is asked to please contact Detective Aaron Simpson at (706) 278-9085, ext. 9-253 or to dial 911.
