The Cumberland County Financial Management Committee hired Jennifer Turner as Cumberland County Finance Director effective Monday, March 4.
The committee approved hiring Turner Thursday morning.
Turner, deputy finance director, has in the past served multiple times as interim finance director for several months at a time and was one of several candidates and a finalist for the director position back in December.
“I move we offer the director position to Jennifer Turner. She is qualified and has been there and we’ve reviewed her work,” John Patterson, 9th District commissioner, said.
Jack Davis, 5th District commissioner, supported the motion.
Nancy Hyder, 2nd District commissioner, said, “Have there been other applications? I wonder who else is interested. I don’t know. I’ve been out a while and just got back.”
Foster said all the applicants for the position had been reviewed and interviewed just a few weeks ago.
The committee then unanimously approved the motion to hire Turner.
Aaron Elmore, who was originally hired for the director position, started Jan. 2 of this year and turned in his resignation from the position Feb. 16. Elmore’s last day as director is Friday, March 1.
Elmore was hired following the retirement of Nathan Brock, who served in the position for 35 years.
The county finance office primarily handles the financial matters for the county including managing the county’s budget, payroll, purchasing and requisitions. The departments include employees of the various county offices, Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office and Cumberland County School System.
The director’s salary is $102,042 annually, which is the same as the salary for the county trustee position, an elected constitutional office.
