There’s almost never a good way to see your high school career come to an end.
But when enough time has passed, the Triton boys lacrosse seniors will look back proudly at what they did this spring.
For a group that includes Josh Berger, Tim Clark, Liam Cummings, Paxton Laky, Cam McDonald, Athan Eggleston, Carl Lucy and Hugh Rice, they remember enduring last year’s one-win season all too well. During the offseason, though, those eight athletes made a commitment to each other, and vowed that their senior year wasn’t going to be the same story.
And they were right.
On Wednesday afternoon, No. 16 Triton put up a good fight in the Division 4 Round of 16, but just didn’t have enough firepower to keep up with No. 1 Cohasset in a season-ending, 18-6 loss. But even despite the tough result, the Vikings (7-11) still blew last year’s win total out of the water, and laid the foundation for the program to return to contender status moving forward.
For his final high school game, senior captain Paxton Laky went out scoring five goals, while sophomore Landon Conroy had the other. Conroy should be among a group of key returners next year for coach Brendan McWilliams, along with Tyler Laky, Casey Wallwork, Carter Whitney and goalie Patrick Jansen — among others.
