GIRLS LACROSSE
Essex Tech 13, Triton 5: Jalyn Dos Santos scored five times and Nora Walsh, Kayla Perez and Sydney Mace had two each as the Hawks improved to 2-0. Also scoring were Makayla Downing and Adrianna Holmes and Franky Roper had another strong game in net with five saves.
Hamilton-Wenham 17, Masconomet 5: Senior captain Evie Bernard won nine draws, scored seven times and added an assist in a superb all-around performance for the Generals (1-0). Maddie Graber and Grace Glidden each scored twice and won a draw while Bailey Shepherd had a goal and two assists and Jane Boardman hit the back of the net twice.
Ipswich 15, Manchester Essex 7: Allie Wile scored four times and joined Ipswich’s 200 point club for her career in her team’s first win of the spring. Natalie Elder had five goals for the Tigers (1-1) while Maddie Machaiek (3 goals, 2 assists), Ella McCarthy (2 goals, 1 assist), Asuka Keough (2 assists) and Keira McPartlin also scored. Vivian Bodycombe and Sydney Leonard combined for five saves in a solid team victory.
North Andover 6, Beverly 5: Madeline Reynolds had a great game in net with 18 saves and Sasha Miller and Marisa Hutton each had two goals and one assist in a razor thin one for the Panthers. Gwen Jones also scored and Morgan Linskey and Charlotte Miller provided strong defense.
BOYS LACROSSE
Swampscott 10, Marblehead 9: Sophomore Tyler Ostroff scored the game-winning goal with 30 seconds to go in the fourth quarter and added an assist as the Big Blue opened their season by defeating their arch rivals from Marblehead for a third straight year.
Ollie Braham led the Swampscott offense four goals and an assist; junior captain John von Barta added three goals; senior captain Jason Rothwell had a goal and two helpers; and sophomore Emerson Joy also scored while Luke Michigan and Will Rowe had assists. Tenth grade goalie Colton Alex made 11 saves, while Michigan won 12 of 21 faceoffs. Jack Duffy had an excellent evening at LSM as well for the winners.
Kyle Thibodeau, Tyler Forbes (assist) and Landon Dosch all had two goals for the host Magicians, with goalie Colin Maniaci stopping 15 shots. Will Kinahan and Ryan Finkle also scored, Owen Dulac had two assists and freshman Reid Wysor had one helper.
St. John’s Prep 13, Malden Catholic 0: Racing out to a 10-0 halftime lead while limiting the hosts to just one shot the entire game, the Eagles got solid offensive production from Thias Tolo (3 goals, assist), Cam Mitchell (2 goals, 2 assists) and Josh Barton (goal, 2 assists) in their Catholic Conference opener. Beckett Lee added a goal and an assist, with Sam Kelly, Henry Bertrand, Paul Kosinski, Blake Ward, Ryan McCarthy and Bo Minogue also scoring. Beckett Flynn had one save to pick up his first varsity win, with fellow keeper Sam Pruell helping to complete the shutout.
Manchester Essex 12, Ipswich 11: In a back and forth contest, the Tigers had the lead in the late stages before the Hornets tied it and eventually won it with 90 seconds to go. Finn Wright powered the IHS offense with four goals, with fellow captain Louie Harrington and Trevor Manning each scoring twice. Luke Wile and Ryan Pulsifer added a goal and an assist each; Travis Wilson also scored; and goalie Connor Wright made a dozen saves for Ipswich, which hit the pipe five times.
Luke Renzi and Noah Cohen both had three goals for the victorious Hornets while goalie Aaron Crompton made seven saves. Bodin Carovillano (assist) and Turner Valeo each popped a pair of goals, with Jack McCavanagh (goal, 3 assists) and Charlie Thurlow (goal, 2 assists) also having big games.
Triton 9, Essex Tech 7: Casey Collins and Luke Marino each had two goals for the Hawks in a season opening setback. Chase Ruberti added a goal and two assists, with Colby Collins (assist) and Tyler McHugh (2 assists) also scoring. Goalie Connor Lacey finished with a dozen stops, while senior defenseman Solen Anezis contributing three ground balls and one takeaway. Junior defensive middie Ben Morgan added four GBs and two takeaways.
Bishop Fenwick 8, Gloucester 7: C.J. Masone’s goal with one second left in regulation gave the Crusaders (1-1) a stirring victory late Monday night.
SOFTBALL
Hamilton-Wenham 9, Winthrop 6: Nikki Richio, Lydia Reulet and Lali Sarvendram each drove home two runs, Violet Fazio had one, and pitcher Molly Bransford didn’t allow an earned run while striking out four batters to give the Generals an opening night victory at home. Hamilton-Wenham finished with 11 hits, with Bianca Frederickson, Sarvendram and Reulet each picking up two.
Marblehead 11, Lynnfield 3: Tess Francis allowed just three hits and one earned run with 11 strikeouts in a road triumph for MHS. Powering the offense were Ashley Mortensen (3-for-4, 4 RBI), twin sister Isabel Mortensen (2-for-4, 2 RBI), shortstop Hailey Schmitt (2-for-4, 2 RBI), plus Tessa Andriano and Nora Mahan, who both hit safely as Marblehead scored at least one run in every inning.

Danvers takes two: The Falcons toppled both Gloucester and Saugus with key performances out of Mason Ellsworth (discus and shot put), Ben Blum (javelin), Alex Cotter (triple jump, high hurdles, low hurdles), Julian Capece (triple and high jumps), Luca Tirella (triple and high jumps), Zach Dunn (100), Andrew Morse (800), Luca D’Angelo (400), Bubba Randall (200) and Atharva Aher (2-mile).
BOYS VOLLEYBALL
Methuen 3, St. John’s Prep 0: The Eagles fell to 0-2 on the young season after dropping a 25-13, 25-8, 25-18 contest to the Rangers.
COLLEGE BASEBALL
Endicott 24, Gordon 5: Cade Bernardo had three of Endicott’s 20 hits, drove home five runs and homered as the Gulls improved to 11-4. Kyle Grabowski hit a triple for Endicott and Beverly’s Noah Guanci made his career debut on the mound, striking out a pair of Fighting Scots. Masconomet grad Gabe Fales drove in a run for Gordon (now 5-13).
WOMEN’S COLLEGE LACROSSE
Western New England 24, Gordon 3: Hannah Rose scored twice for the Scots, who fell to 0-9.
