BOYS VOLLEYBALL
St. John’s Prep 3, Wayland 2: The Eagles took a clutch 22-25, 25-21, 25-19, 15-25, 15-12 victory as Jayden Pelletier led the way with 25 kills. Gavin Brownson and Shea Doherty also sparked St. John’s Prep with stellar blocking performances.
Essex Tech 3, Salem 0: Isaac Mauricio had 11 digs and served up six aces to power the Hawks (2-0) to a 25-10, 25-6, 25-16 sweep of the Witches.
BOYS LACROSSE
Salem 12, Lowell 5: A 5-0 run in the fourth quarter helped the Witches pull away for their second straight win in as many days to begin the 2025 season. Andreas Bernal scored three times with an assist, Fionn Coughlin added a pair of tallies and three helpers, and Matt Rosa had a goal in addition to 10 faceoff wins for Salem. Mikey Curtin (2), AJ Alessi (2), Jake Lister (2 assists) and Gabe Bennett also had goals for the winners, who got 10 saves for Vince Milano in net as well as the first varsity save for freshman keeper Alex Rivas.
Manchester Essex 5, Swampscott 4: Down three goals with a minute-and-a-half to play, the Big Blue (now 1-1) scored twice to get within a goal but could not come up with the equalizer. Timmy Sheehan played well in making a dozen saves in net while fellow captain Jay Domelowicz caused five turnovers and scooped five ground balls. Chase Russo led the offense with three goals, Jason Rothwell had one, and Liam Keaney added an assist.
Charlie Thurlow and Jack McCavanagh both had two goals for the victorious Hornets, with Noah Cohen also scoring and Connor Dickson making 11 saves. Luke Renzi added one assist.
BASEBALL
Swampscott 12, Northeast 7: After falling behind 6-0, the Big Blue (1-0) rallied to win as Nate Lee homered and added a double, single and two RBI. Jaimson Ford also homered and came on to record the last three outs on the mound. Cooper Correnti, Michael Collins and Chase Groothuis all had two hits each and David Palmer picked up a win in relief. Adam Sparacio also added two RBI from the leadoff slot.
Newburyport 7, Marblehead 6: The Magicians (0-1) left the bases full in the seventh and couldn’t force across the tying run. Ethan Harwood went 2-for-4 with two RBI while Cam Quigley also had two hits. Stef Shepard and Aidan Downey scored two runs each.
Arlington Catholic 12, Ipswich 2: The Tigers dropped a tough one on opening day.
GIRLS LACROSSE
Swampscott 15, Lynnfield 11: Avery Laundry scored four times and Chloe Puzzo (two assists) and Cecelia Tripp both had hat tricks to pace the unbeaten Big Blue (2-0). Goalie Lilah Caplan made 14 saves while Bridger Maloney scored twice and Lia Beatrice, Fiona Keaney and Victoria Pierro added one each.
Bishop Fenwick 11, Malden Catholic 2: Breanna Genzale had four goals, Kiley Bloom two with three assists, and Molly Sullivan with two more as well as one assist to power the Crusaders to an easy win. Francesca Herbert, Neive Bachman and Allison Doherty all had single scores for Fenwick, which got six saves from netminder Courtney McKenzie as well as terrific defensive play from Meghan Eastman, Olivia Watson, Cori McMeniman and Caroline Lapalme.
Tewksbury 14, Danvers 6: Annabel Boyd played well in net for Danvers with 11 saves while Savannah Botthof led the scoring column with two goals plus an assist. Olivia Henry added a goal and two assists while Sienna Goldberg had one of each and Elizabeth Farrell and Giovanna Rodrigues also scored.
COLLEGE BASEBALL
Endicott 23, Suffolk 4: A 25-hit attack that included two homers and hits by 11 players powered the No. 6 ranked Gulls (14-3), who remained unbeaten at home. Peabody’s John Mulready and Kyle Grabowski both went 4-for-4, Cade Bernado had three hits and four RBI and Endicott scored 11 times in the sixth to bury the Rams. Charlie Hale worked two spotless innings to earn the win.
Gordon 6, Rhode Island College 3: Freshman Gabe Fales from Masconomet clubbed a 3-run double up the line in the bottom of the sixth to put the Fighting Scots (11-9) ahead for good in the come-from-behind win. Casey Watson earned the win with 3 1/3 scoreless relief innings, Fales’ Masco teammates Paul Donnelly grabbed a save and Evan Clark also drove in two runs.
WOMEN’S COLLEGE LACROSSE
Roger Williams 22, Gordon 2: Kaitlyn Mini and Caroline Piorkowski scored for Gordon (1-9), which remained winless in conference play while being outshot 36-8.
Salem State 14, Mount Holyoke 11: The fourth of Jordan Turcotte’s five goals gave the Vikings (8-2) the lead for good with 8:08 left in the game. Laura Young exploded for six goals plus two assists to pace SSU while Aislinn Bennett had a key goal and scooped up four grounders and goalie Nora Bradley made 13 saves.
MEN’S COLLEGE LACROSSE
Endicott 30, Nichols 4: The Gulls (7-3) set a program record for goals, assists (50) and total shots on goal (84) in a single game and scored 12 times in the second quarter to turn the game into a rout. Jake Matthews had his first career hat trick, Tommy Tyksinski also scored three and Nick Grapp netted five.
Roger Williams 15, Gordon 3: Colin Liscomb did all he could to keep it close for Gordon (1-5) with 14 saves and Jackson Wright scored two goals.
WOMEN’S COLLEGE LACROSSE
Endicott 21, Nichols 10: Leah Black and Bailey Sheehan each scored five goals with one assist as the Gulls broke open a tight game with a 6-1 run in the third quarter to win going away on the road. Mia Smith added three tallies and two helpers and goalkeeper Payton Quirk turned aside seven shots in net for Endicott (now 7-3, 3-0 in league play).
COLLEGE SOFTBALL
Gordon drops two: The Fighting Scots (5-13) couldn’t score in a pair of losses to Worcester State, 7-0 and 1-0. Samantha Perkins (double) had three of Gordon’s nine combined hits and Emily Graham took a tough-luck loss in the 1-0 decision, firing a 3-hit gem.
